Hi ladies,
Does anybody else get a sensation that your urethra and bladder are "itchy"? I guess it is kind of burning, but also itchy... like it is "buzzing". It can get really intense and literally make me squirm. Also, since my diagnosis, I have noticed that it can be a precursor to more intense cramping pain the next day...
Anyway, I used to always think it was my vagina that was making that sensation, even though it wasn't really centered in the right place for that, and then like a dope I'd use Monistat because I was convinced it was yeast again --- and THEN, again, like a big dummy, wonder how come it never stopped until it was good and ready.
Well, last night it started that nonsense again, and I've discovered that Pyridium and a pain pill knocks it right out, so it is definitely NOT my vagina. Also, I've had a urine culture while my urethra is misbehaving like this and it's never an infection.
Hmmm. Learn something new about my IC every day! :)
Hugs,
Jen

Itching is the lowest form of pain. Usually the itching is due to something ingested (food, drink, meds, anything!) Try drinking some extra water to get it thru the system. You may want to keep a food diary for a while to see if you can track down what it is. Note everything you put into your mouth LOL even over the counter meds.:hi: Kathi

Hey Jen,
It's funny because as I read more posts, I'm figuring out that I have a lot more symptoms than I thought I had.
I also get what you've described, which I discussed with my new uro/gyn last friday and she confirmed that she's seen other patients with this same thing. I've kept using Tea Tree oil suppositories, which have worked really well for yeast infections, much cheaper without the stinging of commercial meds.
However, I don't think there was any problem with my vagina - I think it felt a bit bad from pelvic muscle spasms but that it was actually my urethra.
I've also discovered that these tremors, which I think you described in another post, which I thought were my uterus, was actually in my bladder as well. Yeesh!
I've found that a REALLY hot bath helps quite a bit with the "itching".

Hi Emily...
I have the same feeling... that the more posts I read, the more I realize I have had all sorts of symptoms for quite some time! I never really connected all of these with my bladder, but there is no doubt now that all of them come from there or are at least related to my IC in some way or another!
I will need to try the hot bath trick the next time that itchy feeling happens. Also, as Kathi suggested, I am going to attempt to keep track of what I've been eating around the time that sensation begins... maybe it is some kind of hidden food trigger I haven't figured out yet.
I also think I agree with you.. perhaps my vagina would sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable due to pelvic floor muscle spasms or whatever else, but that there was no inherent problem with it. I've had it checked by my gyno several times and there is really nothing at all wrong in there, not even much yeast most of the time!
Thanks for responding to my post... :) :)

Jen, I am itchy all the time...sometimes very little itchy and sometimes A LOT itchy!!! I sleep with a heating pad every night and I figure it is from the moisture...But I can't live without the heating pad so I tough it out. I have had yeast infections but not in a while... I do notice that the days it is worse is right after a flare and of course, after a DMSO treatment from being cathed.
Emily, I'll have to try the tea tree oil. The diflucan makes me puke for 24-48 hours.. I hate it!!!! :( And I'll try the hot bath!! Thanks for the new ideas!!!
I love that you guys always have experienced the crazy stuff I have. It is just sooooo nice to be understood!!!!
:D Thank God for this site!!!

I have worn the fabric down on the crotch of my favorite pj pants from itching so much! My husband calls me Al Bundy because I've always got my hand down there! As if just having ic isn't enough....

I, too am grateful for these boards. Also, one of the reasons that I tend to attribute that itching to pelvic floor stuff is that I tend to get it in the evening, after a long day.

I found this to be the case more after menopause then before..But I use Lidocaine 2% for it...and it helps the area from the soreness and redness I get there from the acid in urine..Frequent showering helps, or just cotton and clear water..I've always thought it was the acid anyway??
