I was prescribed Neurontin today and I am absoulety terrified to try it. I take luvox and Xanax and Lortab and I read some other peoples side effects. Is it really that bad?

HI Dani,
I am on Neurontin and working my way up to the dosage. It hasn't been that bad and it is helping with pain.

I know people react differently to it. I was someone who was thrilled to finally have a pain med with no side affects on me!

I have a friend who takes it but needs a nap within a half hour time....and others that couldn't
and still other that are like me and call it a life saver.

My Neurologist says it is one of the safest drugs of it's kind. (probably why it is used for pain so often)
sart slow and wein onto it....that makes a huge difference.
slow being 100mg for about 3 days and going up at that rate. Docs don't always think of that so ask a your doc about it.

Best Wishes

I posted this info on another thread but will repost here since it is specific to your question... I was prescribed neutrontin and I took it one night before bed and woke up the next morning with a migraine. I tried it again the next night and the same thing happened so Ive not taken it again yet. I have appt with my pain doctor on wed and am gonna discuss this with him and find out if he wants me to try it again. If so, Im gonna ask for something for the migraine it gives me. Ive heard so many things about it and was hopeful it would work for me but if a migraine is gonna be the side effect on a permanent basis, then I dont want to take it.

Hope it is working out for you.

Just wanted to say I have taking Neurontin for over four years plus, and it is great first I was taking 300mg three times a day and then went to twice a day and now cut myself down to once a day because it is so expensive and I cannot afford it even though it has helped me very much. I also have the implanted pain pump, but I take the Neurontin at night and it keeps me pretty much settled down during the night. I sometimes have more discomfort than other times and so I just lay down with the heating pad or whatever works at the time.
As far as I am concerned it is a good drug, but everyone is different, what ever works for you is what your should stick with. Make a list of questions for your doctor and that should make you feel some better getting all the questions out of the way.
I seen a acticle on the television saying have you or a loved one commited sucide because you were taking Neurontin, if so call these certain lawyers, it is a stupid commercial that scares the pants off people. What ever works for you and your doctor that is what you should do.
Good Luck and God Bless.  :dogrun:

Hi Morgan,
I get the migraines too, for a couple of days with each increase in dosage as well, but they do go away once I adjust to the new dose. I use maxalt for the migraines and they lift in about an hour. Its been worth it to me to stick it out with the neurontin.

My hubby uses Maxalt for his migraines too -- says it works better than Imitrex, which is the other migraine drug.
