I had my very first cystohydrodistention 3 weeks ago on 6/11. Overall it was not a bad experience at all. I was put under general anesthesia. The outcome was a definitive diagnosis of IC. My Uro/Gyn who performed the procedure showed me the photos of my bladder on my follow up visit and I could not believe all of the glomerulations ( pin point hemorrhages) that were present. This is what had been the cause of blood in my urine from time to time which is what first alarmed me 1 year ago( in addition to the urgency and frequency). The blood is what prompted me to first go to a Urologist to see what was going on. I was so frightened. Now that I have a true, definitive diagnosis, and I know it's not any kind of bladder cancer, I feel better emotionally and know that with treatment and following an IC diet, the IC can be controlled ( I HOPE)
Since the cysto/ hydro, I have not needed to take any pain medication at all and virtually have no urgency. I just hope this lasts as long as possible. My treatment plan to start with , when the time comes, will be to take Elmeron. Anyway, good luck to all and anyone scheduling a cysto/hydro. It is not only diagnostic but therapeutic as well. It's too bad we cannot repeat this procedure more often for the relief. Be well!!!:
