I know a flare is possible because I've read it here! I tried Elavil - I took it at night - and by the next day I was flaring. It was so upsetting because so many of ICers have had such positive results with this med. I was hoping I would be able to join them. It seemed to make it more difficult to pee and it increased my urgency. So I felt like I had to pee more than usual but had a hard time getting anything to come out. If any of you had a similar experience please share and perhaps tell me what works for you right now - maybe we're the same and I can try that med next! HELP!

It took about a week to feel better on the ami. Maybe the flare up was coincidental. I would give it a couple days. Are you titrating the dosage up weekly?

Hi

I took elavil years ago after my back surgery for neuropathy. It helped alot until the neuropathy progressed and the was on a high dose (60 mg) was leaving me more tired and sedated. When I found out that I had a B-12 deficiency, I got off the elavil and started B-12 injections.

I had to restart the elavil two days ago because I was just diagnosed with IC. The uro wanted me try it because it is supposed to calm down the bladder and allow me to sleep. I haven't noticed it kicking in yet. I have noticed an slight increase urgency but that could be from my period starting in a couple days. I usually flare around my period.

I would give it some time. I had great success with elavil with the neuropathy in the past. I actually had a lengthy discussion with my uro about elavil because I did not want to go back on it. It leaves me tired the next morning even when I take it at night. He wouldn't take no for an answer and wanted me to try it again at a low dose. So, I am back on it.

Thanks
Jennifer

my doctor said it takes up to 8 weeks to notice the best results with elavil...I have had to play around with my dose for a while, but now I have one that helps with the pain, in conjunction with a couple of other ones that are (at the moment) right for me...

I find, as some of the other women here, that if I take my elavil too late at night, I am struggling in the morning - I always thought it was something else, but I am noticing my schedule as of late, and it's the elavil! I have to start taking it earlier to help with that :)

keep trying it, work with your doctor(s) to help you find the right dose...it's very different for everyone...I swear by it...good luck!
