I have had constant pain down the right side of my body since january. HAve been doing deep tissue massage once a week, no help. We are now talking fibromyalgia (possibly) but I cannot tolerate Lyrica or Flexeril, anyone take any other muscle relaxers that are ic friendly

I may be in similar boat as you RE: possible fibro:(..don't know for sure right now but I guess time will tell :( But my pain is such that I just cannot even stand to be even lightly touched...it is superficial muscle pain for me rather than deep muscle pain. Have had a few guys offer to give me a massage ;)but being touched even slightly when I am having one of these superficial pain episodes nearly makes me jump out of my skin so I've had to decline the offers lol
Anyway, I have tried flexeril, and I can tolerate it but it does not seem to help. That is the only MR I have tried so far for this pain specifically. I have tried other MRs for PFD in the past tho that my bladder tolerated fine but I did not find relief with:
Baclofen and Zanaflex
Zanaflex KNOCKED ME OUT, like for up to 12-14 hrs, even with cont'd use, so I am really not a fan of that one. Baclofen did not seem to have any effect on me one way or another.
BUT, I have used low dose valium (2 mg up to 3xday) in the past for PFD VERY successfully with NO side effects! I have not been able to use it for any condition for the past couple of years b/c I have been taking a different anxiety med in the same family (that helps me much with my anxiety :), but not any of the muscle issues related to my PFD, IC, VV, etc. :()
I hope you find out what is going on and something that helps! I am pretty frustrated myself at this point...adding in another chronic pain condition is adding insult to injury...LITERALLY.

Lyrica is probably on my list of meds to try, Judy, or possibly Neurontin (sp?). My bladder generally tolerates meds well, so I doubt either will cause me any bladder issues, but whether they will work for allover body pain is the big ??? for me and I guess only trying these meds, as usual, will determine that.
I know that some have had good success with Lyrica. What was your experience with it? Was it specifically that it caused you bladder issues, or were there other side effects that made it intolerable for you?
Judy, like I mentioned in previous post I am also experiencing mysterious strange very painful body pains and like you have many questions, including if whether fibro is what is actually going on with me??????????
My pain sounds very different from yours from the brief description you gave of what you are going thru. I have not done extensive research on fibro, just have asked other members here on the board who have fibro what their experience has been and also limiting myself to just visiting the Mayo website for info. Seems one (of the MANY) criteria for fibro is pain affecting equally both sides of the body at the same time and on that point I am experiencing that. But as for the "trigger/tender" points I don't seem to have those, and if I do, the rest of my body hurts JUST AS BAD as where the trigger points are reported to be. I also do not have joint pain. But I do have the feeling like I were thrown down several flights of stairs or hit by a mac truck, which is how I can describe it and have seen many others describe it that way as well.
So...just wondering what if anything your dr(s) have to say about your pain being on just one side of your body?? (again, just asking ????here :), not judging what your dr(s) might be saying , 'cause like you I am pretty bewildered about what is going on with my body!!):loco::help::(

I just posted this on the other thread you started, but here it is again: :)
In addition to my daily pain meds, I take 4mg of Zanaflex (in generic form) three times a day--every day. Unless I am having a super-nova-flare, when nothing works , these do a perfect job of eliminating all of the different kinds of spasms I used to have, e.g. bladder spasms, urethral spasms, and vaginal spasms. So, I highly recommend it!
I hope you find something soon that helps!
Hugs,
~Beth

Maybe you were on a much higher strength than I am?? I take 4mg tabs three times a day. Other than spasm relief, I cannot tell that I have taken anything at all!
Oh well!...that may just be another of the many ways we are all different when it comes to these meds!

Flank pain is my main IC symptom. I don't feel the pain in my bladder. It radiates up my left side, very deep. Before I was diagnosed, I thought I was passing a kidney stone.
While deep massage would probably feel great, I doubt it would help the pain in my case.
My preferred muscle-relaxer has always been Soma, but I'm newly diagnosed and don't know yet how it affects my bladder.

I am a fan of Amrix! I tried the Generic version and it was not as effective. Amrix is a name brand so it can be $$$ pricey $$$. I have a lot of allergies to medicines and colorants. Amrix is a burgundy/maroon color so I am shocked I can tolerate it.

I was told that fibro is usually not on one side only that it is all over, My Drs. had me fill out a medical questionaire and I do not fit the fibro picture. I was just give klonopin for the muscle pain and will see how that works.
