Hi Everyone,

I wanted to see if anyone has had a Laparoscopic procedure. I have a feeling that my gynecologist would like me to have one to rule out endometriosis and other things but I am concerned that this procedure could make my IC worse.

Has anyone had this procedure done, and has it affected your IC in anyway?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I had a laparoscopy (as well as cystoscopy at the same time). It showed I had endometriosis as well as IC. As I didn't know I had IC before this I can't say whether or not it affected me. My pain symptoms of the IC are urgency and frequency with occasional pain. Any other questions?
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for your response - I really appreciate it. I am going to see a really good gynecologist in Philadelphia tomorrow and I was wondering if he might suggest a Lap procedure. I can't tell if I have endo. The last gynecologist suspects it, but wants me to try LoestrinFE (birthcontrol) to see if that calms the symptoms. Since January, I have gotten my period every 28 days (except Feb, when I didnt get it at all) and this month I was 1 week late.

My IC symptoms are mostly pain with urination and severe pain with bowel movements (sometimes they bring me to tears). I aways have this feeling like I need to "hold it", but I do not usually have urgency/frequency. Doesn't it all sound so strange!?

My hyrdo/cysto revealed chronic mild inflammation in my bladder.

Hi. I also have endometriosis. My gyno recommended the lap but I said no. I didn't want to be out of work for that long, so instead we tried the Lupron-depot, which is a shot that puts you into false menopause.

If you respond (which is a worsening of your symptoms then a leveling off of your symptoms) then you have it. Normally they do a one month trial then a three month and a three month (with me anyway) and then you do continuous birth control.

I do not like menopause at 19. It sucks, but I feel almost normal between the medications for IC and endo. When my symptoms worsen, so does your hormone levels, which turn you into PMS-mother-from-rawr.

Things that also come along with the psuedo-menopause is: vaginal dryness (say hello to lube), osteoparosis (which they give you an add-back therapy to help plus recommend that you take a calcium supplement), hot flashes (which the add-back therapy helps, and a lack of sex drive. Im a newlywed, so yay for that... not. Lol.

Anyway research it and talk it over with your doctor.

Hi, I have endometriosis and had lap surgery 2 years ago and dr. removed adhesions from both ovaries. I am asking for it again as I need answers for pelvic pain.

It was actually nothing compared to dealing with IC. Recovery for me was about a week but was prolonged b/c of extreme stress and not resting enough. (then husband left day after surgery--jerk--divorced now!:woohoo:)

I am afraid of lap again b/c I need no more bladder damage but I need peace of mind and answers.

I can worry about everything but I can only deal with what is right in front of me and that's what I'm going to do. If dr. agrees to do it, I'm doing it. Recovery was nothing. Chronic pelvic pain stinks!

Hope you find relief. Hugs,
Ophelia:hi:

Hi, I also wanted to add but forgot that I also am experiencing cramping around bowel movements and currently not constipated so I'm thinking that is signaling a recurrence of my endo.

ICgennifer also mentioned the BM thing and that sounds like me but not as intense.

Hope we all get relief! hugs,
Ophelia:hi:

p.s. used wrong smiley in title, cramping BMs don't make me smile! good grief. just gotta laugh. lol!!

I have had 3 laps for endo and adhesions. It only took a few days to recover, but the co2 they use to puff up the abdomen hurts as it works its way out of you. :shake: But after that it was fine. Rocking works wonders for that!

Getting rid of the endo helps alot. I had my last one done in 2001, and was pain free untill about 9 months or so ago, (sig says 6, but thats when it got really bad). I say go for it, Hopefully it'll help you like it did me.
