Hello Everyone,
My name is Monica, I'm 41 years old and was just recently diagnosed with IC in February of this year and the diagnosis came after three years, one surgery, five doctors and many prescriptions later.:loco: Let's see where do I start... in October 06 after my monthly cycle, I had this intense pain in my pelvic region that just would not go away, now mind you I've always had painful cycles, so at first the pain didn't ring an alarm, but after a few days and as the pain got more and more intense it caused me to make an appointment to see my GYN. The GYN I had at the time immediately told me I needed to have a hysterectomy because I had fibroids, now mind you at this time I was 37 years old, no kids and had just had my annual woman's exam the preceeding August 06, so I was truly perplexed  and decided to seek a second opinion. I talked to several of my girl friends and a few of them had recommended a GYN to me so I made an appointment to see him and get his opinion on the matter. Well to my dismay he did say that I needed surgery and yes I did have fibroids, but that it could be done without doing a hysterectomy. So my surgery (laperotomy) was scheduled for February 07. To make a long story short after that surgery I remained in pain and got referred from doctor to doctor, got prescription after prescription, but nothing help with the pain.
I had made up in my mind that I was going to find out what was wrong with me so one day doning some research I stumbled across one of my very first GYN's who had left the area and had been gone for about 10-12 years and my heart beat for joy as this was one of the best doctor's I have ever had and I knew that if anyone would/could find out what was wrong with me it would be him. It's now Nov 08 and although he was located about 1.5 hrs way from me, I immediately made an appointment. We caught up and I gave him my medical history since the last time I saw him and the first thing he asked was..."has anyone ever checked your bladder?" and of course I was like NO, my bladder, why? So he explained IC, what it was, gave me some information on it and why diet is some important and we scheduled hydro/cysto for Feb 09 and afterwards is when we found out I had a severe case of IC as well as billions and billions of adhsions (as my doctor put it). I was placed on Elimron and have been taking it for about 5 months. I'm scheduled to have another hydro/cysto and lysis of adhsions this August. He was to check the bladder again and go in to remove more adhsions, he said I had so many he knows he didn't get them all. Now al total this will make surgery number 7, but I will say I am feeling a little better, at least the pain is not every day it's just really bad before and during my cycle. I still remain prayerful, faithful and most assuredly HOEPFUL!!:smile tee
