You might want to ask your doctor for an antispasmodic. Sometimes they will help cut down the frequency. It's also important to drink enough --- I know it sounds silly to drink more when you're already having frequency, but it can help keep the urine diluted and less irritating.

Donna is right. :) Definitely check with your doctor. I was up to over 30 times a day on a good day and over 60 on a bad day. Yesterday and the day before...6 and 7 times. Right now I'm on Enablex in the morning and Amitriptyline at night. Being on the right kinds of medication(s) can make a WORLD of difference. This is the first time in over 6 months I've been able to go out and feel comfortable doing it. :woohoo: Hope you get to that doctor soon so you can find some relief. Best wishes to you.

I agree with what Donna said. I find if I'm dehydrated I need to pee more, and it hurts more because it's concentrated. I've figured out that for me I really need to drink a lot first thing in the morning, then ease off if I'm going out but drink lots more as soon as I get home.
Adding half a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water right before bedtime also helps me sleep through the night. Sometimes I need to get up once to use the bathroom, but if I DON'T drink anything before bed I have to get up three or four times. Weird... but it's all to do with concentration and pH of urine.

glass,
It also depends on what you drink. I only drink water. Sugar, acid, caffine and carbonation can irritate the bladder. I also have a problem having to go constantly if I drink a lot of water. I just sip on water all day. I don't drink a whole glass at one time.

Always consult with a competent doctor and yes, stay hydrated. Urelle helped me with bladder spasm. (I'm still going about 14 times a day..10 on a super good day.) Urelle helped me a lot. Physical therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction has also helped. Low doses of diazepam help a lot of people too. Make your doctor work for you! :)
PS--I sit on heating pads constantly. That also helps. I use thermacare on the road. The heat helps the muscles and the spasms behave.
God bless. :)

I can't be of much help, because my main symptom is pain, but I have had days when frequency bothered me.
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction is quite common in people with IC, and it's possible that's what's making you have problems. Muscles around the bladder must loosen up to allow urine out, and when they are dysfunctioning, they can't stay loose long enough to let you complete urinating, therefore, you have to go again soon after.
For PFD, physical therapy and Valium is almost always what is prescribed.
If it gets really really bad, which it sounds like it already is, try this: Drink a bit of water, maybe a full cupful or two, wait til you have that "full" bladder feeling, then sit in a lukewarm bath for about an hour, or if you don't like the idea of a bath, you can turn the shower on and sit in the bath that way...as long as water is reaching you. When you feel like you have to pee, try to relax and let it out with the water. I learned this from a friend who has bad bad frequency, it works well for both of us.

I know the frequency can be a pain but Donna is right. Increase your fluids, my urologist is constantly telling me, increase, increase if you feel that constant need to urinate so much. Make sure you aren't drinking the carbonated drinks or anything like that. Water is your friend! Also, you might want to consult with your doctor or a urologist if you have one about an antispasmodic, there are numerous different medications out there that can be of assistance. Pyridium is OTC, there are also RX strengths but that medication can help with frequency, it doesn't help in all people, remember that, but it may help you. I know it can be a pain constantly up and down in the bathroom! But a doctor I work with told me, if you sit in a warm bath and just relax, it will relax all of your bladder muscles and "calm" your bladder down so to speak. You may want to try that as well. I haven't tried that mechanism yet because I am actually in retention and have a catheter in place, but I am definitely keeping it in mind for future reference!

Also, be careful about your water. If you are drinking tap water, most cities add things to it, like Chlorine. If you are drinking bottled water, be sure to check the label to see if there is anything else listed besides water. If you are drinking bottled Drinking Water, it is the same water that is in the water system of the city where it is bottled. I am able to drink most brands of bottled Natural Spring Water, but I still check the lable.

It is a lot, but I myself before I went into retention found myself going just as much. It's a pain, and unfortunate part of all of this. It sucks.
