I just wanted to let everyone know I had my first hydro today and I am doing better than I thought I would. I was so nervous!

They gave me a Valium before the anesthesia, to relax me, which has helped me sleep all day until now. I'm still really tired and will probably go back to sleep soon. The pain was not really all that bad as far as when I went to the bathroom. It was very uncomfortable but not burning really. It was just slow and dribbly coming out.

The only hard part was right after I woke up from the anesthesia it felt like I had to go to the bathroom SO bad...not only pee but the other way as well. I was begging the guy to let me get up and go to the bathroom. He said my bladder had just been emptied and I didn't need to. I started crying because I had to go so bad. I was trying to get up and he kept telling me to lay back down. Is that normal to feel that way? They said it was probably my bladder just spasming. That was the worst part of the whole thing though. I am usually a big girl but I was so upset!!

Oh and the doctor said my bladder capacity was 200cc, which was really very little. He said the woman he did before me was 800cc. I hope this helps because that really sucks!

I'm so glad it all went well for you!! :flower:

Did you get local or general anesthetic?
Did you have to ask for the valium or did they just give it up??

I have my first cysto w/ hydro coming up and I'm so nervous. I hope mine goes as well as yours.

Please keep us posted and let me know how you're feeling in the morning. I hope you stay well once the valium wears off. :) Have a great night.. and congrats!

They gave me general anesthetic. She told me she was going to give me something to relax me, then I just started giggling...it was funny. As far as the Valium goes, before they took me back to surgery, the nurse came in and said I am going to give you something for your nerves. She said I seemed fine, but they just do that anyway. Then they just gave me the Valium when I hadn't even asked for anything...I made the joke that I thought the anesthesia would have relaxed me enough...LOL! But I didn't know how I would feel afterwards so I just took the Valium. They did give me some more pain killers for later, but I haven't needed them as of yet. I think they are opiate based, so if I do need something they should be pretty good. I am feeling pretty good though! It definitely wasn't as big of a deal as I thought it would be. The only thing that worries me is my extremely small bladder capacity...I hope there is some way that can be improved.

I just wanted to give another update. I am feeling just fine...no major problems really. I just am feeling like I need to go to the bathroom a lot, but I am not going as much as I was before the distention. Maybe my bladder is still freaking out? The doctor prescribed UTA capsules and I think those are helping some with that, but they are turning my pee this neon blue green color LOL!! I haven't had to take any pain medicine, which I am happy about, because I really don't feel like sleeping anymore. I did that pretty much all day yesterday except waking up to eat. I think I am about to go out and get a late lunch now since I am feeling pretty good. I'm just hoping that in a few days I will feel some of my symptoms improving!

So glad to hear you are able to go without the pain killers today. :woohoo: I'm sorry the results aren't where you expected them to be yet, but at least you're doing a little better than you were before. I will keep you and your continuing improvement in my thoughts and prayers .

I'm glad it went well, YorkieMom. And your bladder should feel much better for a while. Mine was a month ago, and I haven't had any severe flaring since.

My doctor ordered an antibiotic as well as a sedative in my IV.

Sorry to hear about your small capacity. That must be horribly inconvenient for you. I hope the benefits from the hydro make up for the distressing news.

My procedure was good as well. Got anesthesia and woke up when it was done. A little pain, but they gave me something for it and it took care of it right away. As soon as I was able to pee, they let me go. The urine was bloody and there was some burning. Nothing too bad. I went home and rested. The pain left very fast and I felt good for several months. I would have no reservations in getting it done again. This was just my experience with it.
