I have been on Elavil since I was diagnosed almost two years ago. I have basically felt normal for the past two yrs, like practically cured. I had a UTI in early May and took my antibiotics and had my urine ck'ed 2 wks ago and everything is good. My doctor suggested I up my does of the Elavil - which I hate doing bc it makes me so tired - but now I am taking 25mg in the morn, 25 at lunch and then 75 before bed. I have been doing this for two wks and haven't been feeling any different. My symptoms are back. Fortunatley not pain but the frequency and urgency is back.

Has anyone ever just had Elavil (amitriptyline) just up and stop working? I'm so bummed.

***also My Uro prescribed me Atarax 25 mg so I guess I am going to try this tonight.***

The fact that you had a UTI means your bladder had that to bother it along with any "cheats" on the diet...which you sound like felt well enough to go all out on that end. Our bodies change...especially when we are women. Your bodies ph can effect your ability to heal as can age.

Try to think positive. You got into a medical remission once and you can do it again. I may not know how you will do it but I believe very strongly that there is a way!! :grouphug:

Hi Katrina, Thanks for your encouraging words. I found out today that I have/had a yeast infection. (prescribed Diflucan pill) Prob from the Cipro I was on last week. I am hoping, fingers crossed, that that is the reason for my sudden discomfort. Seemed like I had the frequency before the Cipro but we'll see. I take so many antibiotics now and not to mention I was eating a ton of sugar from my Elavil sugar cravings!!! Sheesh, I am not surprised really. I'm hopeful that I will feel better tomorrow.

well that should help....I understand the med side effects not being fun! perhaps your pelvic muscles have been through a lot...UTI, Yeast...and just need a little time to calm back down when it is over...I hope so! ((hugs))

Just a reminder:

If you take probiotics after a course of antibiotics, now's the time. Hope you feel all better soon.
