Well, after many tests and obstacles I was diagnosed with IC yesterday. I had a cysto and the doctor found inflammation in my bladder and ruled IC as my diagnosis. :( Could be worse though! (keeping my head up)

Now what? I have to see him in 2-3 weeks and we will talk about treatment options. I am new at this and don't really know what the treatment options are. I know everyone is a little different but what should I ask him about or what worked for you? I don't seem to have IC to severe and can "cheat" with a few diet foods every now and then without to bad of a problem. And, the diet seems to be working. So, what are some treatment options I should talk to my doctor about? I'm not a huge fan of medication but would rather take it in order to live a normal life. (And, right now I'm not!) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

My suggestion would be to read read read as much as you can here and elsewhere about IC treatment so you are well informed when you meet with the doctor. Then together you can evaluate what options might be the best for you.

Read about the side-effects of all the meds that are available to treat IC, since that can often help you decide whether you want to try a drug. And personally, I like the careful approach of one drug at a time. However, if you and your doc decide to try Elmiron, since it can take months to become effective, it's wise to have an interim treatment plan.

Right now you are doing the best thing possible by testing out the IC diet. It can take weeks to feel the benefits, but if it really works for you that will also have an impact on developing a treatment plan.

If you will look in my signature below, you will find a link to the Patient Handbook. Click on it and you will find a section for medications and treatments. You can also find some information by clicking on "Patients" in the area right below the mast head at the top of this page.

Tough luck on the diagnosis, but welcome to the family. Research and Diet are a big part of recovery/remission, or so I've read.

I think you might need something to help your bladder heal from the flare that sent you looking for a diagnosis, at least.

I hope you can get by with minimal medication.
