Hi. My question is... I'm having a Cysto with Hydrodistention on Friday and I am worried about the pain afterward. I have had numerous in office cysto's and always have some pain afterward, but not bad. How does this procedure compare? Thanks, Leslie

I usually have some pain for a few days after a hydro, but not horrible. My uro gives me pain meds for the first few days.

Ok good! I can do minor pain... I just didn't want to be out for a week. I am symptom free right now... so the thought of doing something that would cause pain was making me anxious! Thank you for your reply.

Expect your urethra to be pretty unhappy for a day or two, and to pass a little air which is weird. After that, I was emptying my bladder more freely for at least a couple of weeks. I think I took some Azo, but I don't think I needed any other pain meds.

I slept a lot for a few days (with a hot water bottle), and accidentally got dehydrated, so be careful about that.

They shot some antibiotic into my IV, which is good to know, so ask if that will be part of your procedure.

Good luck, and I hope your team are the kind that pamper as much as mine did! Outpatient surgical centers rule!

I am with you on being nervous about the hydrodistention. I have mine tomorrow morning at 10AM...first one and I am pretty scared! I have never had pain with my IC, just the constant pressure and frequency. I'm hoping that I will at least feel good by the weekend. Good luck to you on yours on Friday. If I feel okay, I will try to get on here and let you know how mine went.

When I had my cysto/hydro, after I woke up there was some INTENSE burning in my urethra and I was given morphine and some percocet, but I hardly had to use the pain meds after the morphine wore off. The first couple of times will be painful to pee and then after the first day or two you should be going back to normal. I have never had an in-office cysto but I am told those are painful compared to the In-patient ones, where you are put completely under.
