I didnt know quite where to put this post, I guess this is as good as any where. My question is what has been the experiences of IC patients when
placed on strong anti-gerd medicines, i.e. PPI's, e.g. Nexium, Protonix, and
Aciphex. I have had IC for > 10 years as well as intermittent gerd for >20
years. I'm afraid I may have to go on a PPI on a regular basis and am
concerned because in the past when I took Aciphex occasionally, it seemed
to cause more bladder pain. Is there a particular PPI that seems better
tolerated by IC patients? Currently, for my IC I do daily instillations and if I
watch it I get by. But so many prescription meds for other problems seem to be a problem. Thanks.

Some people actually take Prilosec or Nexium for IC and find it helps.

I've been on prevacid for some time and it didn't effect my bladder in any way negatively. I actually think that it has helped.

Hi, I take protonix for GERD and I've been on that since before IC. My acid reflux can get very bad so I must take the PPI. It's not something I would be able to stop b/c my bladder didn't like it. Some meds you just need for other conditions. I have tried Aciphex which didn't work as well as the protonix. Prilosec did nothing and Nexium gave me abdominal pains.

There are a variety to try so as with everything it seems like it could be a trial and error thing to find the right one that sits well w/ your stomach as well as your bladder.

Good luck
