View Full Version : Weird Symptom

I am having weird symptoms that I compare to the braxton hicks pre labor contractions in my bladder. If you've ever had a baby you know what I' m talking about. it's so odd, its like my bladder totally cramps up, for a few minutes, then slowly lets go. I know this is a type of bladder spasm, but its different than they were before because tho they are very uncomfortable, they dont send me into a crying jag from pain. Nothing stops them, no UTI over the counter pill like pyridium or the rx stuff (the blue pills--forget the name), nothing.
Its very uncomfortable and stops me dead in my tracks and I have to sit somewhere and wait it out.
Also, now that I have a sex life again, I am VERY uncomfortable the day after, actually right after sex, and for a few days after it. Its irritation at the urethral opening, and works its way up, then after a few days it goes away....
I had this d*mn disease and dont want it ruling every aspect of my life. My husband even said something about my sleeping so much..........well when you count out how many different illnesses I have I think sleeping when i need to is justified!
Help........btw, I love you guys!
Sandy
Hi Sandy, I know exactly what you mean, I experienced those types of bladder spasms, about a week or so after my cysto/hydro, and several other surgeries I had done at the same time. It was exactly the same as when I had my children. In fact I used to do the breathing to help myself out. One time we were at traffic lights and the guy in the car next to us nearly fell out of his window, watching me instead of the lights.:loco: I think he definitely thought I was nutty. They eventually went away after a while. It is the strangest feeling:confused: let me know how you are doing, hugs Iris.:hi:

Hi Sandy,
I have that sensation too... it is really uncomfortable, but it isn't as agonizingly painful as some of the other types of bladder spasms ... I know exactly what you mean. I get that kind when I get stressed or nervous (and if I keep being stressed and nervous it can progress to the real painful kind).
I get a lot of different sensations down there in the bladder region. I don't know if anyone else gets this, but sometimes I also get this sensation that my bladder is "fluttering" or "quivering." My hubby can even feel it flutter sometimes if he puts his hand on my tummy ... he does that in the evenings and if it is doing that he puts his mouth near my tummy and says "Ok, Bladder, we've heard about enough from you today... go to sleep!!!" Or something like that... LOL :) It makes me laugh...
But believe me, I hate this disease too and I can really sympathize with you... and as far as I'm concerned you deserve to sleep all you need to!!!!
Hugs,
Jen :grouphug:

I have never had a baby, but sometimes I get spasms that make me go into that breathing pattern that laboring women do. I just stop where I am and sit down. I know what you mean Barb, about feeling like you are going to deliver your bladder. OUCH!!
Owie (my bladder) also does that quivering thing, like your bladder Jen. It is like she is cold or something. That one isn't really painful, just annoying. And OWIE also does that cramp up quick and slow release thing that your bladder does Sandy!! That one is also not painful for me, just annoying.
Sometimes I feel like my bladder is a mental case and needs Prozac!!! :loco: She's always freaking out about something and she does the strangest things!!!
Sandy, I agree with the others. You rest as much as you need!! My Uro says rest is very important for IC patients and I know I always feel my best when I get at least one nap during the day!!! :cat:

Ha, Jen, that is funny about your husband. Boy, he sure sounds supportive. It definitely pays to have a sense of humor about this stuff, although we know it can be hard sometimes...
It's funny how people post very personal things, asking if its ok, or noting that they never noticed such things about their bladders. I don't think any of us paid any attention to our bladders before, aside from the usual. But now we're examining the color and smell of our urine, noticing very detailed things that we might have ignored before, giving our bladders names, hahaha. I know this disease has changed my life quite a bit, but I try to remember the positive ways it has affected me and how I've grown to know myself a lot better and to be very grateful of my husband.
Sandy,
I sure hope you feel better soon. I sometimes get wierd spasms but I'm so glad you posted this. I always assumed that they were my uterus but now I realiz that they occur in the front of my abdomen, and the uterus is behind the bladder, so it must be my bladder. Wierd! Mine aren't particularly painful, just uncomfortable, that same fluttery feeling I think Jen mentioned. And yes, it's quite a motion, like a baby kicking in a pregnant woman. I find that plain old hyoscyamine works (I believe it's in the blue pill urimax) and that it works fairly quickly, where someone else noted that it often takes several Urimax pills for her to get any effect.

I'm glad to know others are going through this too, but I dont wish it on anyone. Its exactly as you all described, some more painful than others, some just annoying.
Thanks for writing, and thanks for making me feel better about the need for sleep. Do any of you guys fall asleep sitting up you're just sooooooooooo tired? Or while eating? I rarely drive anymore because of this it is getting so bad lately.
I feel so odd and stupid when my son comes in my room to tell me to lay down to sleep!!!!!!!!!!
I think my hubby thinks I'm a junkie, and I'm not, I came off the oxy with NO problem at all, course I did have the morphine to replace it, but I was still worried about withdrawl and had none, so I KNOW i have a tolerance, NOT an addiction, but nobody seems to know the difference around here but y'all.
Sigh, I could go on all day long. Thank you so much, all of you.
Love, Sandy

Thanks Emily,
You are right!!! The positive thing in all of this is that we do know ourselves a lot better. We know we have limits and we know a lot more about our health needs and we know that we should always remember to appreciate the little things!!
 Thanks for the reminder!! You are so special!!!

OK I have never had kids but my bladder will cramp up and it will hurt so bad that I cant get out of bed, I tried explaining this to my hubby and he said maybe you had to poop? but it's not that kind of cramping it was closer to a menstrual cramp but different, I don't know if this is the pain your talking about but if this pain is anything like labor pains I'm never having kids :toosh:
My bladder always itches, and flutter's, and throws tantrums.....
I wish I could just :dogrun: run away from my bladder.
I am never so tired I could fall asleep standing up I'm always like a zombie never awake and never sleepy, I'm just here if that makes seance. I do seem to sleep better from about 9:00 am to 11:00 am. I know that's allot of sleep:rolleyes: lol
I hope everyone gets some good days:kiss:

I hope you are feeling better soon. Sometimes I get those spasms and nothing will stop the pain. It is so frustrating. It is hard to breathe and move and sit and stand. I tried heat and that didn't help at all. :(

I, too, have those bladder labor pains. They are soo sharp that I have to sit down. And if I'm already sitting down, I have to yell. I was very concerned about these pains, so my ob/gyn gave me a sonogram of my female parts, which came out fine. Sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what part of me is in pain (bladder, female organs, or bowels). I have soo many problems going on in that area. We determined that it must be my bladder, though.
I also get those flutters & I am glad to hear that others do too. Not that I'm glad you all have IC; I'm just glad that this is another symptom & I'm not going loony. I carry my cell phone in my front pocket & when I get those flutters, I think it's my phone vibrating because someone is calling me. But then I realize that I'm at home, still in my pj's & my phone is in my purse.
Some of my friends have asked me to describe the pain I'm in. It's very hard to describe, but labor pains pretty much pins the tail on the donkey.
Thanks to all!

:biglaugh: :biglaugh: Some of these posts about bladders are funny!!
Jen,
that really is so sweet of your husband to do that...cant believe that he can actually feel the fluttering too!
Sandy,
mine are like Emilys, they arent really painful...but it is like a fluttering feeling
Barb,
That was so hilarious,"I thought I was going to deliver my bladder":biglaugh:
Oh my gosh - yeah! That bladder flutter thing freaked me out so badly last summer and my doctors just said "Weird!". BUT - several things helped to calm it down & now it hasn't happened in months. Gel ice pack, not heat helped. Lying on my side with a pillow between my knees was & still is better than on my back to calm my bladder before sleep. And the Elavil-10mg/Ditropan-5mg combo I take at night really helps the most. Hope one of those suggestions might help somebody else:)
I'm so glad you and this website are here. No one else wants to hear about my bladder and sometimes it just feels so good to share weird stuff like this!
(Although one friend admired my cysto/hydro pix and suggested a bathroom wall photo gallery! Gotta love friends like that:)
Thanks for being here

Well I just woke up from falling asleep on the couch , sitting up, again. I am just so beat amd ,poor tummy hurts, bladder, bowels, and pms.......sigh
I am comforted so much by all of you and know that these ar real sx related to the IC, at least the funky bladder contractions...
I too loved the anologys about delivering your bladder. Its fun to talk about this and we can laugh (we HAVE to laugh or we'd all be nutty)
Thanks and MUCH gratitude to everyoe who replied. If I dont mention each of you individually its because I dont have the stamina to sit her for long ;-( Just wanted to thanik you all for your opinions, examples, and personal situations,.

I haven't had cramps but every now and then I get a vibrating sensation. If I squeeze my perineam it will eventually stop. It's a relief to know that I am not the only one!
For the burning after sex I have been using aloe vera. I cut a long stem, trim the spiky parts, cut the outer skin off the flat side and insert it in my vagina with the gooey side towards my belly button. I leave it in for thirty minutes (you must lay down for this) If I feel bad the next day I do it again AM and Pm until it is better. This saved a Mexican vacation my husband and I took! Good luck, Tia

i also get cramps in my bladder. Sometimes they last for just a few seconds and sometimes they last for over an hour. I just sit or lay down until they go away. When I am on my period, I get intense cramps like that around my female organs, and the bladder cramps feel very similar, just in my bladder though. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

I have to say that I get pains too. But I have not figured out if they are from my Endo metriosis since they happen on the left side ( the left overies are scarred beyond recognition!). They are really sharp and I have to try to relax by doing breathing exercises. Since I have not had any children I cannot say that these feel like labour pains.....

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I can't believe this post! I've been having sharp, severe pain on both sides, more on right. The pain is worse with activity. really worse. As I don't do much bc I'm in so much pain and on so much pain pills I don't get out too much or drive.
I had a hysterectomy 12 yrs. ago for severe endo pain and coinsidently saw my gyno last month and mentioned, is there any way there could be any new endo. or adhesions as I did last yr. as I've been ill w/ ic 14 months and haven't worked. When I had my hyster. my gyno (different gyno, lived somewhere else) said it was one of the worst cases he had ever seen, in fact said he had to remove my bladder and scrape the endo off for a long time.
I've told my uro of my concerns, but he doesn't seem concerned. This is one of those situations where I feel I need to trust my gut and get some tests bc there must be something wrong besides ic going on there. I always have pain where my ovaries were and like I said, with activity I double over.
Is this what you guys are talking about? Thanks so much,
J
  :toosh:
Since I have been taking Prelieve (only a few weeks) my bladder has cooled but it feels more like cervical twinges and when i ovulate I can feel my ovaries. I think maybe we are just extra sensatized to this part of our bodies.
I have found yoga to be very helpful especially when I have menstrual cramps on top of the usual. If all you are capible of is breathing exercises try this simple one, laying down
Inhale deeply, hold your breath until the count of 10 and then exhale as slowly and for as long as possible. sometimes I visualize the burning feeling releasing with the exhale. Repeat until you get into the rhythem. Take care to all, Tia

Hysterectomy about 12 yrs ago, so I don't have pre=menstral like you describe. I don't think you were reading or hearing me when I was describing the pain I'm having where ovaries were located.
I'll try the breathing exercises you describe.
Does anyone else have comments on my pain where ovaries are located?
Thank you so much,
J. :hi:

I have bladder "contractions," too. They aren't extremely painful, but they're very uncomfortable and I felt like I could almost "time" them - every 8 seconds. Wierd.
I kept thinking that I must have a raging bladder infection, but my urine culture was normal. I'm beginning to see a pattern here.
