Hi I just wanted to share about my latest tests
I went in for a cysto/hydro/DMSO, my first ever DMSO. I was under anastetic for this, as my new uro wanted to look for himself, he could not understand how 6 uros would say from taking my symptoms that I had IC, but then after cysto they would say I didn't have IC. So I agreed to my third cysto this year with a new uro (one I had waited a year to get an appointment with). The cysto/ hydro/ DMSO went fine, he said I for sure have IC and as far as he can tell I have had it 20-30 years, I figure I have had it all my life. He said he could not understand why the other uros had not seen it, but the other uros figured because I have such urinary retention that IC was not my problem, this uro figures the retention is from pain in the bladder and surrounding areas from the IC.
Anyways after the cysto/ hydro/ DMSO I woke in pain and a real need to void, I was given antispasam meds and pain meds and this settled down.
But then after I held the DMSO in for an hour and they wanted me to void, it was a no go, this is very comman for me, after I have been cath I ussally have trouble voiding for 4-5 days. I wanted to go home but they wouldn't let me go home unless I went with a bag and cath, but if I was willing to stay in a hotel close by and come back if I quite voiding altogether ( I was dribbling little bits at a time). So I had a long night in the hotel, up every hour drinking and dribbling. 5 days later I voided 800cc and 15 mins later I voided 600 cc, I was very incomfortable for these days and yes I did stink, my poor husband had to drive home with me for 4 hours with his head in the open window. After the 5 days I steadily improved, but did get a bad UTI. I do think though that the DMSO did help my bladder feel alot better, it has been 4 weeks since the one treatment and it's effects have worn off. But it was nice for my bladder to feel so much better for awhile. Not 100% but better than it was. I think too that when I had the test and treatment my bladder was the best it has been in years, so the DMSO treatment may have not helpped as much as I think, but one can hope.
The uro started me on Elmiron for the IC which seems to be going okay, I go back to see the uro in Sept. it was to be Aug but I wanted to wait till summer holidays were over. I then will discuss with him about more DMSO treatments and about how the elmiron treatment is going.
I guess I have gotten a little wordy, but just want to update people I have not been online much for quite awhile, I was away for 6 weeks and then was down for a few days after the DMSO/cysto and then down again with the UTI, and then wham a whole pile of work had piled up from not doing anything for 2 mos, so I am caught now and I am hopping to get back on line more, but now the weather is so nice I want to be outside.
