a little over a year ago I was exercising every morning until I was peeing about 6 times in the half hour of exercising,:( and I just could not do it anymore, well now I can go about a half hour without going if I really watch what I eat and drink, and i started exercising again and it feels so good, I pee about 2-3 times during but it's worth it, been doing it for two week's now I love the way your body feels after, I just feel more healthy and flexible.:woohoo: I am not has tired has I usually am although I'm really getting about 5 hours of sleep my bladder does not like me to get more and that four hours has to be broken up from me waking up to go about every two week's I will sleep really good due the body just needing it. I get up or just stay up like tonight till 5:30 when Denise Austin comes on the life time channel, still can't do much abs wise but other then that I'm fine with what she does, but oh doing a small amount of an abs workout brings the pain so bad and I can't exercise the next day.

so far I have lost 4 pounds, and I'm excited, I know getting more sleep would really help but I have not found anything short of just sleeping on the toilet that would help, any suggestion???
and am I doing to much with exercising a half hour five day's a week, I do go by how my body feels and wont if I know it's going to cause more problems or the body or bladder just doesn't feel right don't know how to explain it I just know my body.:hi:

Way to go! Just be sure to take it a little easy until you get into a routine.

Sending encouraging hugs,
Donna

When it comes to exercising. I just do what I can depending on how I feel that day. I have found that if I am in too much pain to exercise I try to do it anyway even if it is just 10 to 30 minutes. I actually have more problems with IC if I get into the habit of not exercising at all. I don't spend too much time on abdominals either because of IC but I have no problems walking, lifting weights, or swimming. :)

You may want to try taking Elavil to see if that helps you sleep better. When I first had IC I couldn't sleep because I had to keep getting up to go to the bathroom every 45 minutes. The urologist prescribed Elavil which helped me sleep through the night. It is not a habit forming drug.

Thankyou magenta I'll talk to my doctor about elavil, and we have to be a bit stubborn with our self to stay into a routine, the body tells you what it wants though and every thing does seem to be better with exercises. I know the day's I decide not to because how I'm feeling sometimes later in the day I'll feel more up to exercising. keep up the good work.

ICDonna thank you for your encouragement

Just curious what kinds of excersize people with IC are managing. I like yoga and pilates, but I can't do the Mari Winsor pilates. working my abs like that feels like i've joined up with a Nazi boot camp type thing or something. but i have got to loose some weight. HELP!

For me-walking & yoga with an instructor who I've told about IC & who modifies exercises for me if she notices I've stopped.

A Dr. at Mayo clinic recommended yoga for me to relax the bladder and my whole body. Only been at it for 3 days, but I think it is helping. Sure beats taking meds!

I have been doing cardio. start with worm up's and stretches for 5 min do cardio for 20 min then cool down and stretches for five min.
Stretching before and after really helps in not having sore muscles from it, I will stop at the first sing of bladder pain and wont even think about doing it if I'm in a flair I'm hard on my self but patient at the same time. I really can not do to many ab exercise which I miss so bad I loved doing crunches before IC decided to set in, so I will do a few but right when I feal alittle pain or just that felling of some one pinching you down there I stop, if i keep going I will get pain so bad for a few day's

oh I'm so excited I have lost 12 pounds so far and people are starting to notice it really helps keep me motivated. it's nice to know that its really paying off. at least I try to get in thirty minutes a day but if it is only five minutes I can exercise at least it's still something. so when ever I feel like getting up and running in place or jumping I just do it. I act like a kid now when I'm excited I let my self run around the house I figured hey I feel like doing it why not do it?

And i have a Chihuahua who loves to be chased around the house I would just not do it that often before never really felt like it now when he want's to be chased I just do it for has long has I
Can, but boy do I get out of breath woo.
I feel so much better about my self. :dogrun:

Plaedes,

I try to do cardio about 3 times a week. Two days of walking, 1 of mountain biking. (I've only recently added the biking because my bladder doesn't hurt often.) I find if I wait 48h between workouts, I decrease the chance that I'll overdo it and cause a flare.

My husband recently bought me one of those exercise balls. It came with a suggested exercise routine, which I do once or twice a week. I do all of the exercises except the Abs section (I too made the mistake of doing too much Abs one day--a Sharon Mann workout on TV--but that's another story). The exercise ball is such a mild work out that I can do it even days when I feel some pain and it seems to help with the pain and put me in better spirits.

Hi
I like resist-a -ball and -- it is Low impact and I enjoy it.. There are some days it hurts to just walk so that is when I have to take it easy..I like to walk on good days as well.

I find walking to be a great form of exercise. Its usually when I stop that my urgency and pain return. Walking helps me mentally as well as physically. Its only on a real bad flare day that I don't go.

Just this week I started biking. So far, so good!

Lyn,
Glad the walking makes you feel better. Hope the biking goes well for you too. What kind of riding do you do?

Good for you!

I just started exercising again about a month ago, and it feels great physically and mentally! I started out slow then little by little built my strength up. Still not where I was before IC Pain, but getting stronger and feeling better everyday.

Easy does it at first. Knowing your body and how far you can push it is the best guide.

Amaris,
I do simple bike riding. I live in a beautiful area with lots of hills. We also have a walking trail that runs for miles along a river. It is flat and a great place to ride, BUT I can't get to it or from it without climbing steep hills. Therefore, I have to get myself in shape! So....... I am on my way and loving it!

I am also in the middle of my first DMSO treatments, so am praying for some good results so I can keep moving on in life!

Enjoy your biking!
Lyn

Hi I am wondering what dosage of elavil people are on. I find Elavil has been really a positive when it comes to sleep. Thanks Joan

One of the many things I missed when my IC was at its worst was exercising. I used to go to the gym every other day. After elavil kicked in and started to work I resumed my usual routine. I am now back doing Pilates and running. Since elavil can cause your appetite to increase it is a good way to keep my weight low.

well, i started walking at a local park a couple of weeks ago. i was feeling really great until we went out of town for the 4th of july. long story short....some really messy things happend and it was extemely stressful. i was in a flair after that and then started my period in the middle of it. i think i am going to start again today though. not hurting too much. i may just have to rest a little on the track. i sure miss my days of kick boxing classes! oh, i wanted to mention that i got really mad one day while i was in a flair and i went down stairs to punch on the heavy bag we have. i wailed on it for about 20 min. and was in no pain. i think the adrenaline rush just took over me. i think every home should have a punching bag. that way you have an outlet when you get angry, frustrated, etc. and just want to hit something. sometimes it can be the greatest feeling in the world. then when your done punching....your too worn out to think about it anymore.
