I just woke up a few mins ago with a flare up, it's horrible. I have my cysto in 3 hours and I'm not sure what to do. I was told not to take my normal medications, except singulair for my asthma, so I'm assuming the pain pills are out of the question. If anyone's around this late with ideas, I would appreciate them like crazy!!!!!

Chelle,
If you are still on here, the flare could be stress about the procedure. I would not take anything without talking to the Dr. Let someone know as soon as you get where your procedure is and ask them if you can have anything for relief. Sending hugs,:grouphug:

Funny how the word "normal" can spark such frustration. I had the cysto/hydro this morning and am refusing to urinate from the burning, oh my goodness it hurts!
The uro left the hospital before I was awake, the nurse told me the bladder looks normal, and isn't sure whether the uro things IC is still an issue. He did prescribe Lortab (which I already know doesn't help my pain), Macrobid, and Ditropan. I have serious doubts that Ditropan will help as the pharmacist told me it's similar to Detrol which did nothing for me.
I'm so very frustrated right now at the lack of answers. We know SOMETHING is wrong, but what could it be now?
And thank you to all those who sent prayers and hugs my way.

Chelle...
Don't hold on to the urine for too long. I know it burns to go but, that will diminish every time you go until it does not burn any longer.
Can you call your uro and ask for the results of your c/h? ...:)

Thanks for the response Sharon... I did go... I find it helps to bite down on a washcloth rather than scream. My poor kids are on Spring break and I don't want to scare them! Hopefully the burning will subside soon.
I'm a little nervous on calling my uro. He's not exactly the nicest of doctors, I've already encountered an incident where he breeched my confidentiality! He is the only local uro covered by my insurance. He had me taking 600 mg ibuprofen for pain, I'm sure you can imagine this was no help! Finally I called and requested something strong, which is when we started Lortab, the nurse told me she called it into the pharmacy - and she never did. I had to call the answering service 3x, 2x the nurse called back saying she called it in and she didnt! The 3rd call was from my uro and he got very nasty with me about the situation. I'm not sure where his nurse called, but it wasn't my pharmacy to which I gave her the number, I was so upset that he seemed to have been blaming me!
I have called my insurance company and explained that a 2nd opinion would be best and they agreed to cover 90% if I see another uro... I think it's about that time!
Sorry to vent!!

Dear Shell,
I am so sorry to hear of your plight, it seems almost standard for the Uro's out there to be so complacent, agrumentitive and all together just plain apathetic, I am not sure why they chose the profession in the first place, perhaps they are just regulary "pissy" people?
I hope only the best for you, is there some kind of topical foam they could give you for your horrible bathroom sessions? I used epifoam left over from when my daughter was born and it helped a lot! ( they use it to numb the episiptomy insisions after childbirth).
I agree a second opinion would be good for your situation where there is no difinative answer, I hope that you can find yourself some caregivers that have morals and are accomidating with your pain management issues, keep your chin up and go for it, at this point you have nothing to lose! If you can get on top of this pain and the syptoms that are evolving from them perhaps you could feel " normal" again!
Much hope and best of luck in your search, we care about you!
Love,

Chelle...
Do you have a Primary Care Physician who you see for health issues other than IC? If so, maybe you could make an appointment to talk about IC. That is what I did after I originally went to a uro who did the cysto/hydro on me. Don't get me wrong, I do not have anything against uros. I just found that my PCP was able to help treat my IC symptoms while providing care for all my health issues.
I do hope you are able to find another uro who will cooperate and help you. :)

Hi Sharon,
Overall I do like my uro, he's really not that bad - he's actually the one who first suggested IC... I would just like to get a 2nd opinion, and if I get a uro who says IC and is a bit more compassionate...
I see my PCP all the time, now there's one I need to replace. He says all my symptoms are from depression. Since when does one run a 100 fever every day for 6 months due to depression? Not to mention my resting pulse averaging 100-110??
Guess medicine is a love/hate profession!

I am quite alike with Sharon, my Urologist (I have had 2 since my diagnosis 2 years ago) where not treating any of my pain symptoms, I took every med out there from Neurontin to Oycodone and nothing seemed to help until I had a series of Nerve Blocks in November. I do not know why but the URo's I have encountered are very strict and not to liberal when handing out Narcotics for the pain that accompanies IC, mine gave me 14 Hydrocodone then 14 Percoset and pretty much told me I was gonna' have to deal with it!
I too see my general Doctor, (PCP) for ALL of my needs, he understand a whole lot better than the URo's I have been treated by in the past. I have pretty much severed the relationship with my Uro because he simply just gave up on me!!
If one Doctor does not work keep fighting for your rights to be seen by one who is compassionate to your health care needs, I will tell you they are sometimes hard to find but if you get one don't let go of him/her!!
All the best to you Shell!
