To all you other ladies who suffer with chronic/repeated YI's, I thought I'd share my story. After years of pain and misery, itching and irritation, I was referred to a specialist. He proposed a treatment that isn't "normal," but worked wonders for me - I am on a once-weekly dose of Diflucan as maintainence, rather than a rescue. It isn't traditional, but it sure worked for me. Thought I'd let you know I have been YI free for over two years. Hope this helps someone!

Glad to hear you found something that works for you! I know how frustrating chronic YIs can be. I have also suffered with them for years. Finally, my new PCP did some bloodwork to see why I keep getting them. The result? Pre-diabetes. I urge anyone with chronic yeast infections who hasn't been checked recently to get tested for Diabetes. Several of the symptoms can be masked by IC, (or some of the co-existing condtions), and IC-related meds, (such as frequent urination, dry mouth, nocturia, fatigue, etc.). I feel very lucky to have found out now so I could make the necessary diet/exersize modifications so that hopefully I can keep this from turning into full-fledged Diabetes a few years down the road.
Anyway, thank you for letting us know what's working for you. Yours is the first post I have read about that option. So, thank you for posting!
Kind regards,
Amaranthe

I am glad you are feeling better!!! However, I was on long term use of Diflucan and found out from my new doctor and the pharmacist that it can cause permanent damage to your body. I wish I could remember what exactly it did but it was recommended not to be on it any longer than 3 months due to this fact. I want to say it damaged the liver pretty bad or something to that effect. Just thought I would tell you so you can check into it or if someone is considering using it now for long term. So many times us as patients are not told these effects until it it too late.

glad that is working...I did that too for a time...but doc stopped liking the results of blood tests and wanted me off of it....and guess what without it I still had issues...but hopefully it can be a cleansing for you or that it doesn't do anything to you that would make it not work out in time. :grouphug:

Using Represh acid jel every 3 days , Femdophilus vaginally once in a while and taking strong probiotics, like VSL#3 orally/daly helps me.
I also take Yeast Gard probiotics orally, it is homeopathy. It is supposed to help with the itchiness....
Diflucan only before my period.
I used yogurth vaginally for a while an helped me a lot, but some of the yogurth got "trapped" once in the cervix and I got a bad yellow discharge. I never used yogurth again, vaginally. I figured that, since I have PFD, things can get trapped there because all is tighter. So I don't put things that can go bad.
With Femdophilus probiotics, I have to remove them out of thir original cap which is desigend to melt in the guts, and i transfer the contents to a clear gelatin or vegetable capsule. I throw away one part of the cap so the contents can get out easier, once they are inside me. It is a lot of work to keep yeast at bay!
All of the prescribed local medications just got me with V V as a result. I wish I know the abpve plan before. It was a lot of trial and error.
