I have been having right side pain under my rib cage and down my right side off and on for a year. Sometimes I get gassy and I am bent over in pain. All my gallbladder test come back normal. No gallstones and my gallbladder is functioning. I have been told I have IBS, but does anyone else hurt under the rib cage?
Thanks,
Maryann

I have been through exactly that very recently.
I just spent two months getting all the tests. CT scan, sonogram EGD enteroscopy, blood work, and I don't know what else. (All this while what I thought was a kidney stone turned out to be IC)
The final diagnosis is that the IBS that only gave me sigmoid spasms since I was a kid has now worked its way up to spasm my stomach and bile ducts. My GP thought it was pancreatitis at first. After all the tests, the GI guy put me on something to relax all my ducts. I'll be on it for another six weeks while I heal from the acid damage, then probably on to something less powerful to maintain spasm prevention.
I was also getting the pain under my right rib when I was a teen, and it was from a transverse colon spasm.
Best things to do until you can get a diagnosis is to avoid anything fried with a coating and fried snacks. I've also heard that skinning your fruits and vegetables helps. Check out the information about IBS and soluble fiber.
And a hot water bottle helps for me, too.
