I've read a few helpful posts on this site about antispasmodics/anestetics. After reading some of the posts that talked about positive results after taking prosed, I asked my urologist if I could try it. She said she had never prescribed it to anyone and seemed a little unfamiliar with it, but she prescribed it to me to see if it would provide any relief. My symptoms are mainly burning (down low in the bladder) and then urgency with it. The symptoms are not as intense as they have been over the last ten months but still present usually at some point during the day. I'm also taking elmiron 100mgs 3x day (on thrid month) and detrol 1x day, also cut out coffee(which is so hard!), acidic food and caffeine. If anyone has or is taking prosed and has any advice or info about it, that would helpful!
I wish everyone painfree days!
thanks, Stephanie

Prosed did not help me, I responded better to pyridium. But since I have been on amitriptyline, I have not needed any other meds at this point.

I've gotten a little relief with Prosed, but only if I was taking about 4 a day as prescribed by the Uro doctor I was seeing at that time. My experience is the same as KarenAnne in that I'm now taking amitriptyline and it has helped my to the point where I really no longer take Prosed, except if I'm having a really bad day.

The Urinary Tract Antiseptics like Prosed and Urelle can be very helpful to some. They contain anti-spasmodics, analgesics for pain, and anti-infectives tht might help ward off UTI's if you are prone to them. There's no drug that works for everyone, so if it helps you it's great, if not, try something else.
I found both Pyridium and Urelle very useful during bad flares, and those were typically flares that lasted for weeks. I would start with 4 x day on Urelle, then taper off as I began to feel better. Now that I have been on Elmiron for 5 months and am seeing much improvement I no longer use the Urelle. Pyridium is fast acting and, at least for me, works better for the sharp stabbing or burning pain that can happen with a flare, but it isn't recommended for long-term use. The UTA's are safely taken for months at a time and seem to help many with frequency/urgency and discomfort. Go with whatever works!

Thanks to all who responded to info on Prosed. Of course I want it to take away the discomfort but I was also concerned about how safe it is to take short or long term. from researching and reading about prosed, it seems ok to take.
