Since I've been having such a time with flares, even after 8 DMSO treatments, my doc now may want to go back and do another hydro.
I just had a cysto/hydro at the end of January and wonder if my symptoms may have even gotten worse since after or even because of the cysto. I'll know more when I go back to the doc on Monday, but was wondering how many of you, if any, had any luck with more than one hydro?

so your doctor is wondering what things look like....you didn't get any relief from the first one? Is he trying it as a treatment or is he seeing it like a test to see what things look like?
If I were you I would be most interested in how the results will effect treatment. Is he hoping for you to get relief or is he hoping to learn something that will help guide him a direction for treatment. Sorry but I also am skeptical if a doctor is just not believing your suffering.
In actuality I know of a lot of patients that do many hydro's....because they gain some relief from them.
I need to say that if DMSO has been your main treatment than you are missing out on a lot of other options. Such as rescue instillaitons!
PFD diagnosed prior to IC..cool.
I have a pretty big problem with migrianes too...and had a hysterectomy because of endo and have IBS. :grouphug:

I have a lot of relief from my second HYDRO. They were 2 1/2 years apart. I asked the Doctor to please not use any chemicals and he agreed. I have no idea why they work for me but they do. I had been in a flare for five weeks. The Doctor is an OBGYN. He told me he has a neighbor who is a urologist. That Doctor told him he often does a HYDRO on some of his patients once a month. My Doctor said he felt it was way too much. He was pleased on the follow up appointment to hear I was feeling very much better. I think he was telling me to have a HYDRO but use reason and try to wait out a flare until it becomes apparent it is not going to stop. It is only my opinion but I believe a CYSTO & chemicals are the reason many people find a HYDRO very painful. Since we are all so different having faith in ones Doctor is important. There must be a good reason why your Doctor would want to do another HYDRO so soon after the the first one in January. I'd ask him/her why they believe a second one would be of help. Hoping only good days ahead for you. Please keep us posted. Hugs, Ziggy

I was surprised by the PFD diagnoses before IC when I first came here and read everyone elses stories, but I don't think my uro at that time was one that really believed in IC. I am confident in both diagnoses though - sadly.
I know my doc believes I'm suffering and he truly seems to be trying. I think with the hydro, although I can't say for sure, he's hoping to get another look at things to see why I'm still suffering so much and flares are so and so quick after treatment and give me some relief as well.
I haven't spoken with him directly, will do so on Monday, but have been dealing with his nurse who I trust immensely. My doc is out of town, and I've been getting my treatments from her - but she does a great job of relating things to him and getting the severity of things across to him. She's the one who told me he'd probably want to do another hydro, which is what she said he tries to do in cases like mine.
I was having a DMSO treatment once a week for 7 weeks, rather than 6. I took 2 weeks off and started a horrible flare again - right up there with the worst one yet, and went in for another treatment. It eased things for 1 or 2 days, but came back with a vengeance and this is when she told me he'd probably want to do another hydro. I did get relief from the 1st one, but considering it was the first one I'd had I don't know whether to consider that relief minimal or only short lived.
I haven't gone the route of self administered rescue treatments, but am definitely planning on talking to him about them on Monday.
I've got to get some kind of relief so I can go back to work before I lose the great job I have. I've had so many things go crazy in my body of the years I'm surprised I haven't just fell apart - literally.
Katrina - we could be twins :) Or at least related :)

That is the definately the draw back to having a hydro as part of your treatment plan....I notice you are on elmiron and hopefully that will allow for some healing because the drawback can be having multiple hydro's leading to scar tissue issues.
IC sucks! I hope you can find something that gives your relief that lasts! :grouphug:
