So I am mostly venting...but I see a variety of mentions of Strep B in the forums but didn't ferret out a consensus on its potential evilness.

I had a gyn culture (not urine) come back positive for this after some funny business...different white discharge, labial pain...in that vicinity. I have a weeks' worth of amoxicillin, 3 x a day. But I have not seen anything about it being of concern if I am not expecting, or a list of symptoms in mostly healthy nonpregnant young women (by not seen I mean, "on Google"). Didn't get to talk much to my NP on the phone about it.

Has anyone else needed to be treated for this? I am irritated at the thought of taking more antibiotics b/c...well...this IS the "managing yeast infections" spot! And I really don't want to be managing one in a week. :elvis: thank u, thank u very much.

Yes, in fact you will find my post "I'm going to be an experiment" in the causes of IC section of the forum.

Strep B is not commonly killed by Amoxil - unless your doctor did a sensitivity along with the culture and the sensitivity said amoxil will kill it. I have always been told that it can only be killed by penicillin. So you may be being treated incorrectly for it. IV Penicillin given 24 hours for three days is the best way to eradicate it, if you want it COMPLETELY GONE. Even then any good GYN will tell you that strep b will eventually grow back because for a lot of women it becomes a part of your natural vaginal flora, why is uncertain. I took 7 days of Penicillin VK 100mg twice a day and have tested negative for strep b a month later. It will of course come back eventually.

Best of luck to you.

I was told amoxicillin is penicillin --- and I can't be treated with it because I am allergic to penicillin.

Curious little bug it must be...I was considering skipping it but want to see if the purely vaginal symptoms I noticed at least let up awhile.

Having crawling...crawling I tell you...in inner labia and you-know-where again (not vaginal). Nerve creepies? If my urogyn doesn't have an idea I'll have to hunt someone with one; there's a PT in Richmond.

Well. I have 1500mg a day of plain amoxicillin for a week I think. Now I need a better anti-yeastie plan...thanks ladies.

Have you tried a long-term treatment of Diflucan for the yeast issue? I've had issues in the past and was placed on a 3 month long treatment (by my UROGYN) with great success and no side effects from the med.

Just a thought..
