Hello,

My doctor thinks I have IC, but is not sure So i am on a trial with these medicines. I all symptoms, mostly just buring and extreme pain during intercourse. I am taking these pills Elmiron, Oxybutynin, I take 6 elmiron a day. I am now getting extremly dizzy and am gaining so much weight. All my clothes are tight and I can't stop eating. I am hungry all the time. I am also on amitriptylin and zicam. He is one of the best doctors for ic. He is recommend through the ic network. So i know he knows what he is doing, but I just am scared now with the dizziness and the weightgain.

Is this normal??????? Some of the burning is done, I can actually sleep through the night without getting up.. so motly i think its the oxyburynin becuase my bladder seems tigher.. but i still have pain during intercourse and still burning. I am on one more pill , but that has not been shipped to me yet. I get all pills through mail order, My insurance will not pay for in store.

please let me know, I am getting scared. I have also blood in my stools, but this has been happening since 2003 and no one can every tell me why. I also have pain when going to the bathroom( in the buttocks area).

This has been going on for so long, some say it could be many different symptoms. THe ic diet does not work, I am find with food.

ok let me know of your thoughts

Welcome, Rachel

I'm too new to comment on your meds or your condition, but I want to welcome you. This is a good place.

Have you seen a gastroenterologist for your bowel symptoms? That would be a good idea.

How long have you been taking Elmiron? One possible side-effect of Elmiron is atypical bleeding, and that can be blood in the stool. You do say you have had that symptom before going on the drug, but it could be exacerbating the problem. Six pills is a moderately high dose. Did you start on that dose? Most start on 3 or 4 pills per day.

I don't know much about Oxyb. but check the website for the drug and see if dizziness is a side-effect. As for the weight gain, it wouldn't be unusual for the Elavil (amytript.) to be the cause.

Amitriptyline can absolutely cause weight gain. What dose are you taking? It comes as low as 5 mg --- if you're taking 25 or 50 mg you might want to talk with your doctor about adjusting the dosage.
