i prolapsed last year. after fixing the prolapse, i still had major bladder pain. pain that radiated to my thighs and hips, i was just plain miserable and unable to do my job (ranching) adequately. ibuprofen was not helping. finally made it to an urologist after several long months, and he schedualed me for hyperdistension and also a heparin wash last sept. the results were multiple hunner ulcers (like 12) and major inflammation. humm. the doc put me on imipramine 25mg and macrobid 100mg q hs and elmiron, and sent me home. i felt immediatly better-apparently i had a rip roaring bladder infection along with the ic. well it has been 7 months post distention and i have moderated my diet, side effects on elmiron (excessive bleeding) forced me to quit that but am still taking imipramine now 50 mgs, and the antibiotic. spasms are returning with each passing month, and so is the pain despite medication and diet. i called my urogogist, and he told me to take hot baths, and start taking 600mg of ibuprofen.those did not help, so i saw him in the office and he refused to give me anything for the pain. i am searching for a new doc that will have some compassion for my condition and my pain at this point. rats. my husband is very understanding but intimacy is rare as my bladder spasms violently after. oh hum, what to do now?

Hi Chinny7150,

It doesn't sound like your urologist was especially helpful when you called! I think you're probably on the right track in looking for another. There are other treatments beyond Elmiron to try and you'd think he could come up with something beyond suggesting a hot bath and ibuprofen! Sheesh!

(Just a note here,..many find ibuprofen to be irritating to their bladders making something like Tylenol a better choice)

I hope you find relief soon!

At least your first urologist knew about IC! But, yeah. Sounds like your case is major, so you'll need major treatment.

I'd also check out the flare-coping thread. Lots of stuff to try in the mean time.
