View Full Version : Another cysto

Hi

I'm hoping someone can offer me some advise.

I first had a cysto about 10 years ago. The Urologist told me everything was fine. I accepted this and decided at the time I would just have to live with it. (My pain wasn't 24/7 at this point and I felt I could live with the flares) Luckily I went into remission shortly after and it didn't rear it's ugly head again until I came off birth control 3 years ago.

Since having my daughter 20 months ago the pain/discomfort is really getting me down and it's taken me a long time to get to this point. I have tried changing my diet, Elavil, Imprimine and Cymbalta which haven't help me.

I've now been booked in for an Flexible Cysto (so I will be awake) and sent away with Vesticare which I understand is an OAB drug. I feel like i'm back to square one and bashing my head against a brick wall. The Urologist gave me 10 minutes of his time and appeared to be rushing me, he even called me a good girl at one point! (I'm 35) I have a feeling that i'll go through this Cysto and nothing will show up like last and i'll be dismissed again.

I have constant pressure in my bladder. My bladder always feels full yet nothing showed up 10 years ago and now i'm worried the same thing will happen.

Does anyone else have the same and if so are you on a drug which helps you with the full feeling?

if you have the full/pressure feeling it could be you have a yeast build up. i would suggest to get your urine tested for yeast. i had that feeling too and once i started on a probiotic it all went away. also to get ic diagnosed you need to get a cysto with a hydo where they stretch the bladder and insert water. if they do not do the hydro with the cysto your bladder will look normal.

If he's doing the cysto in the office, it's very likely a part of the "ruling out" process. Hopefully you'll have a diagnosis soon.

I would try to find another doctor if this one continues to rush you. "Good girl" would tick me off too. Maybe it was just a bad day for him who knows. But it is important to find someone who will take the time and make you feel secure. Good luck, I hope you find relief soon.:)

I wouldn't let the "good girl" bother me. It may be that he treats younger patients too and it's simply encouragement. Ten minutes isn't bad if it's well spent. He will need to do some testing before being able to tell you much. I wouldn't change yet --- it's very unusual to get a diagnosis at the first visit and every time we change doctors, we pretty much have to start from scratch. I'd hang in there for at least some testing before thinking about a change.

Warm healing thoughts headed your way,
Donna

Thanks for your replies.

I previously saw a uro/gyneo who did take the time to talk and listen to me - she thought it was IC but this was without any physical investigation. However, she didn't give me much hope as far as treatments go. This is the reason I changed to a Urologist. I'm now wishing I hadn't.

The good girl bit didn't really bother me too much, I don't think he meant any harm. What did bother me was the feeling of being rushed. I'm willing to try anything but my heart sank when I realised he'd given me an OAB drug to take. I knew that would do nothing for the pain/discomfort of a full bladder. Day 5 of taking vesticare and no relief.

I take 2 probiotics everyday, I've heard that having a yeast problem can make things worse but I don't think that's the problem here.

Some ICers find that the meds prescribed for OAB are very helpful because they can ease the feeling that the bladder is full. It can take a while. If you've been taking over the counter remedies, they can interfere with prescribed medications so you need to be sure your doctor knows what you are taking. You might try a few days without the probiotics to see if they are a problem --- they can be.

Warm hugs,

I take oxybutnin (an OAB drug) but the first one I took was Vesicare, and I remember the uro telling me that it would take a couple of weeks before I would feel some relief....and that was true, so maybe it just has not kicked in yet! I hope that is the case for you, but it's so hard to be patient when you hurt!
