Have any of you been on Doxycycline for a UTI? I did another urine culture and it came out with some kind of strep. I don't remember full name of it. Sometimes you get some strep down there. I thought strep is only in throat. I'm on Doxycycline 100MG capsules for 10 days, twice a day. I find that this medication is better than Cipro and Macrobid. First few days of any antibiotic I get so hot in my face and itchy, but that goes away after 3-4 days. Is Doxycycline a common drug for UTI?? I'm also on Enablex as well.
Thanks
Katrina

What is doxycycline?
I found the following info on drugs dot com with the usual google search:
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by slowing the growth of bacteria in the body.
Doxycycline is used to treat many different bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, periodontitis (gum disease), and others. Doxycycline is also used to treat blemishes, bumps, and acne-like lesions. It will not treat facial redness caused by rosacea. Doxycycline may be used in combination with other medicines to treat certain amoeba infections.
Doxycycline may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
On this site it does not specify exactly WHICH bacteria Doxycycline is effective for (as each antibiotic may be specific for successfully treating one certain bacterium or several bacteria). I imagine that since your bacteria is of the strep variety then that is why your dr chose this particular antibiotic to treat it. I hope it cures you up and that you feel better soon!

I was on it for 2 weeks a few years ago for a suspected infection in what my Dr thought was a lipoma. Its a very powerful antibiotic so watch out for any possible side effects.
