I have been smoke free with no cheating- I promise - since New year's day.
So that's been almost 4 months.
I finally decided it was time. I found out that you can talk and say you want to quit all the time. It doesn't mean a thing.
Only when you truly decide you want to quit is when you will.
Plus the fact that I have two very small non-calicified nodules present in my right lung might have had something to do with it.
This has to be checked every 4 months. After two years and no change they will release me and say its a benign nodule. That's what I'm hoping for.
I was never a heavy smoker. Only around 6-8 a day. And never until late afternoon until bedtime. It would gag me to smoke in the mornings.:toilet:
But I could be facing the consequences of even that small amount.
Please continue to seek a way to stop for your own health.

I quit 3 weeks ago today and to be honest it hasn't been too bad. I smoked for 25 years and only tried to quit twice but this time I got help and it is working. I was heavy 2 packs a day for awhile when I quit I was smoking 1/2 a pack a day. That First" one in the morning with my coffee was a " gotta have" have for me but no more. And it really feels good.

I know you can hang it there! I've had a few stressful things happen to me last month and if I was going to start back it would have been. But I didn't.
Now I get to brag.
Good job!

When I quit almost twenty years ago it was one of the most difficult things I ever did. But I made a decision that if I could get through four days, I had won --- and I studk to that decision. When I quit Nicorette was still a prescription drug and I couldn't hav made it without it.
I don't even miss smoking.

:hi: CeeCee,
Do you have any tips for quitting. I have tried in the past but it hasn't worked since everyone in my family and all my friends smoke. I just can't stop when everyone around me is smoking. What worked for you??
Thanks,

Janelle,
I don't have any miracle tips. I just knew I was tired of being a slave to the addiction.
It seems like every place we go it is smoke free. It was a hassle to find a place to go smoke.
The first suggestion is not to be too hard on yourself if you don't succeed the first time you try to quit.
It took me several times over a period of several years.
But you can do it. You have to decide to. And no amount of pressure from others will do any good.
Second suggestion is this: For every week that you go without a cigarette you should reward yourself with something. It doesn't have to be big. Just a book, new "smell good" body lotion etc.
If a week sounds too long you can make it everyday or every other day.
Third suggestion: Every time you start to light up make yourself put it down and go do something else. Plant a flower (just think how pretty your yard will be), go for a walk or something relaxing. And tell yourself that you can do it!!!!!
One negative thing I have to tell you is that there will be a weight gain. But it's not much. And it will come off. I am very weight conscience (not a good thing) but I've decided it is much better to be healthy with a few extra pounds than addicted to nicotine. I deserve it. My family deserves it.
I wish you luck and good health!!!!

I passed my one year mark last month!!!!:woohoo: I went hour by hour when I first started. I would say, it's 9:00 I can wait till 10 & then I can make 11, sometimes a couple of hours went by without realizing it. It took about 2 weeks & then I just kept getting easier. Good luck to all, I know you can do it. Hubby still smokes & I hate the smell, LOL. :D Go for it, Kathi

Still smoke free here also. And I have no cravings and desires almost all of the time. Whenever I do it is very small and does pass if I go and make myself do something else.
Hang in there, everyone!!!
