I don't know what to think, and was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts or an experience with this. I can't believe it, but for the past week my urine is green! I've tried to do research to see what could possibly be the cause, and all I come up with is it could be asparagus, vitamins or meds. I know that none of those could be it because I never eat asparagus, am not on any vitamins or supplements, and no new meds. The only other thing I could find is something called pseudomonas which from what I read is some strange type of bacteria. I don't know what to make of this. I'm kind of afraid to mention this to anyone else because they will think I'm crazy. :loco: Anyone have any ideas? :help:

OK I just found a site that says this can cause urinary track infections, skin an bone infections among others. I just don't understand how I could possibly have gotten it if that's what it is. And no I don't really have any symptoms other then the usual burning and IC symptoms I've had for three years now.

I was gonna say maybe asparagus, b/c I have heard that that can turn urine green....tho I eat it at least a couple times a week and have never had that issue myself. The only other thing I can think of is a med such as Urelle, Prosed DS, Utira C, or UTA or another similar bladder analgesic/antispasmodic...are you taking any med in that class?
Other than that I am sorry :( I just don't know what could be causing this symptom...if it is not any of the above, please contact your dr before making yourself crazy thinking that it is some obscure bacteria! And even if it is some bacteria, then there should be some antibiotic that will take care of it quickly! Take care!

Bri: Thanks for responding. I'm actually researching as much as I can right at this moment. I have taken Prosed once or twice back in the beginning of the week, but it usually turns it a true blue. So far from what I've read this pseudomonas is a very antibiotic resistant bacteria. It's found in soil and water, and can affect both the skin and internal organs, but it sure doesn't sound common from what I've read so far. I don't even think I can do an at home UTI test because they always show up abnormal for me.

So far this is what I've found. Pseudomonas is a common cause of urinary tract infections and usually is seen in patients who have had urologic manipulation or have obstructive uropathy. Maybe, something we all should be more aware of? Has anyone else even heard of this bacteria?

Since you're so concerned with this symptom go to your local minor emergency clinic (Patient First, NowCare, etc) and get a urinalysis. You dont need an appt and its usually a quick trip. More importantly you'll then know if you're dealing with something significant.

I would go to a walk in clinic/ER. When I used to eat Fruit Loops it would turn everything blue and green. Eeeeewww. Also, birthday cake frosting. And iron pills.

Thanks everyone: Well so far this morning it looks like the green is turning more to yellowish-green if that makes any sense. I can honestly say that I know this was not caused by anything in my diet. I did an at home UTI test last night, and showed the usual leukocytes, although not as much as normally, and no nitrates. So I guess I will wait and see what happens. If it does it again, I will certainly be calling my doctor next week. I really was just curious if anyone ever heard of this bacteria or had this experience.

Hi
I did a quick search here on ICN and came up with 18 threads that mention this bacterium in them somewhere: Click on link below to take you to these threads/posts:

http://www.ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48751&highlight=pseudomonas

I did not read the threads/posts but perhaps you might find something in them that may apply or is of interest/helpful to you.:)

Yes, as the others said, an in office urinalysis and then urine sent to be cultured is best way to determine if there is any suspect bacteria, and the culture usually necessary for determining what antibiotic is most effective for a particular bacterium.

I see that you mentioned that you took Prosed earlier in the week...just an FYI: I have seen more than a few posts here on ICN where color change in urine due to these types of meds still shows up much later than one would expect, so not an impossibility, even if maybe not an extreme probabability, does that make sense?:)

Have you noticed any off or foul odor to urine or any specifically UTI-like symptoms?

Well, keep us posted. I hope it is nothing serious and just a fluke, but if it continues I am glad you have plans to see a dr. Take care!

Bri: Thanks for this thread. Later on tonight I will definitely be reading them. I seem to have a very slow metabolism so you are probably right about the Prosed showing up so late. I guess what threw me is that I always have that true blue color. As I said, I have no other symptoms other then the usual horrible urethral burning that is normal for me. I just freaked out when I saw the bright green. :) If it happens again I'll be sure to keep you posted.
Again, thank you so much.

Not to make light of this, but yellow and blue make green. I encourage you to have this checked out by a doctor if this does not go away.

I have also read more than once here on ICN in posts that say that Prosed and similar meds CAN present as a green or blue-green color, rather than the expected blue.

Sharon: I did think of that! :lmao: I will be watching this closely, and if it happens again I'll get in to my doctor. I usually have a culture done every three months or so because I always have positive on the leukocytes.
I will not be taking Prosed for awhile. Thanks everyone.
