Hey everyone!
As many of you know, this past year has been hard for me on the job front. I was fired from my job last April. Since then, Ive had a few temp jobs. Then in March, I took a job at a parking deck. Well, in January I started a CNA class. I was lucky that I was able to do the job at the parking deck and the class at the same time.
I really liked my job at the parking deck. That job is about 40 minutes from where I live (typical for this area). Anyway, I figured if I was going to take a job as a CNA, then I only wanted to work at one place. There is a nursing home in my little town, 4 blocks from my house. I applied there the day after I finished my class. (april 29) I had an interview on the spot and it went well.
Yesterday, they called and offered me a job! I will be starting there pending a physical and drug test. I should be starting around the first of June. Im very excited! Its more money per hour, plus I wont have to pay for gas. And, I can walk! Always good!
Im very excited and nervous. This is a whole new career field for me. But after doing the clinical work in my class, I do truely feel that I will enjoy this.
Hubby is taking me out for a steak dinner, and my grandpa and his lady friend are joining us tomorrow. I cant wait! What a great way to celebrate!
Thanks to all of you for your continued support and love!

I can tell you as a RN and a recent surgical patient that CNA's can mean a great deal to a patient and the care they receive overall. I relied on my CNA's post op so many times and they were always there with a smile ready to help me, even when I vomited in my bed, all over my gown, etc...sorry, TMI, but you get the point....your job IS important....I'm so happy for you and from reading your posts over time I think you'll do great at this!!!
Take care, Sandy

Hey Kim! :smile tee:smile tee:smile tee
This is fantastic news...I have been following your work and school schedule, ya know, and am really happy for you that you were able to manage both successfully, esp with your crazy work and school schedule the past months, in addition to IC! Quite an accomplishment!! *applause* Wishing you the very best in your new job...I hope you find it fulfilling and it will definitely be worth the much shorter commute. I am in same position (liking my new job and very short commute) so I hear you on that! You'll probably be pretty darn busy in the months to come but please keep us posted on your success story when you can!

I was a CNA myself for several years, also in a nursing home. I have to say that as hard as the work was, it was also the most gratifying by far that I ever did. I hurt my back working there, and had to quit, but I loved it. Some of those elderly folks either don't have family or their family doesn't come to see them at all, so they are very lonely. I got so attached to my patients, was always difficult when one passed away, but that comes with the job. You're in for a challenge, but it will be very rewarding for you. PM me anytime if you like. I'm happy to give advice since I've been there :hi::hi::woohoo::woohoo:

My dad is worried about me becoming close to my residents. But he also says thats what he says will make me a good CNA. I liked the time I spent during my clinicals. It made the boring class work part of the class worth it.
My sister in law has been a CNA for a few years at a hospital. She likes the personal interaction that she has with her patients. I think thats what I will like too. Im so excited!
Hubby took me out for steak tonight and my grandpa and his lady friend joined us. And grandpa gave me a really sweet card. Ive just been so giddy the last few days.

I was aware you had started a job back in March. Of course, I don't recall being aware of the CNA class. Anyhow, I do have a 40 hour a week job, but I don't think I could handle taking a class as well. I just live less than a mile from the time clock. Yep! Oh! We do have some from neighboring counties. Ok. You seem excited about it. That is good to know. I don't know the level of your IC, but there are plenty of bathrooms at a nursing home.(although I do realize some may not be available to you) Ok, then. I don't know which shift, but I can figure you will tell us some more. I am kinda figuring they are not aware of the IC so far. It has nothing to do with me. I was just wondering if we could take a physical without the doctor ever realizing we actually had IC.(if the person had not known) (unless you have to state it on a sheet that is given to be filled out) Oh, well!

You are going to be great. The CNA's were always so comforting while my parents were in the hospital. Congrats!

The nursing home gave me a form to fill out for the doctor. I do have to list my IC. But because of HIPPA, the nursing home is not allowed to know about it.
My IC is fairly mild and is under control most of the time. Ive had it since late 2005 and Ive only misssed one day of work/school. That was this past March. I had to leave school early and not go to work that night. My Darvon wasnt working and I had to go to convenient care. They gave me vicodin. I dont always react well to meds, so I didnt want to take it then go to work. That ended up being a good idea. The med was a little too strong and made me woozy. I now take half of one.
Only one more week of my current job, then I start my new one. I have my physical on Tuesday.
