View Full Version : Atarax (Hydroxizine)

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I had a few questions about Atarax. I have not yet had a doctor suggest this to me for my IC. I do not have any allergies, so perhaps that is why. My ? is, do any of you take Atarax or Hydroxizine as part of your treatment plan and you DON'T have any known allergies and if so does it help your IC? I'm already on Elmiron and Elavil and I am helped only at night (no nocturia) but days are horrible. Any suggestions?

I dont have any allergies and I have just received this script from my uro/gyno she said sometimes it helps some people with IC. I have not received the meds from my mail order pharm yet but I will let u know how it works out

When I was first diagnosed, I was given Atarax and I didn't see any difference with it, just seemed to make me very sleepy. This allergy season I have had a lot of bladder pain so I called my Dr and asked if I could try it again and he sent me a script. Seems to help the daytime pain somewhat. It is so hard to tell what helps sometimes, but I think it is.

believe it or not this med is going to be a big part of your treatment! you may not think you have any allergies but you bladder dose!! my dr says when you have ic you bladder becomes allergic to your urine. so it is not for any allergies that you may notice in the way of sneezing or congestion or any other type of reaction. I notice a big difference when I miss my dose, it also helps you sleep!

I have never hd any allergies either but was giving this when I went to the uro specialist. Started out only on 10 mgs but have been taking 100mg for a long time.I take it at bedtime so I can sleep. It helps to calm the bladder down (along with me) so I don't have to get up to pee all the time. After I started adding the vicodin (along with doing the hepain instills) I haven't had to get up to pee for over 1 year. It doesn't help any for day time but I can't take it during the day. Just 10 mgs puts me to sleep.
