A couple of questions here.I know Jen said that it is possible for your intersitital symptoms to go away and come back.I had a bad night the other night,--but as far as the last couple days nothing!!I havent even had to get up to use the bathroom late at night for the last 2 weeks or so.How many of you have has this same thing happen??It is almost like I dont have anything wrong anymore and i am schedualed to get my cystoscopy done on Monday.I sure am glad i have had relief--but whats the longest some of you have been without any of the symptoms and then they returning?this is gonna be my first cystoscopy and BOYYYY am I scared:help:
I am just wondering if this stuff is absol normal and how many of you have had this before you got an actual diagnosis, cause as i stated--its like I odnt have a thing wrong.I have had these symptoms for a yr now--now all of a sudden they are dissapearing before a cystoscopy????
I will be needing all your prayers cause im scared to death to go "under" Thanks for listening

Hi lacey,

Well... let's see. I am quite sure I had IC for a long time before I was officially diagnosed via cysto/hydro. I would have these symptom flares where I'd be peeing every 5-10 minutes, and then all of a sudden, NOTHING. Everything was normal. And it would stay that way for weeks, months, even years at a time. For me, it seemed that these periods of flaring symptoms slowly got closer and closer together, until this past December, when it just turned into one long, intense flare that wouldn't go away.

Just to let you know, if you have IC, your urologist will most likely be able to see the telltale signs in your bladder during your cysto even if you are symptom-free at the time of your cysto. I read this in Dr. Phillip Hanno's chapter on IC in Campbell's Urology .

And believe me... I was terrified of being put under anesthesia too!! :grouphug: I understand that you're scared... tell your nurses you're terrified and they will be able to give you a sedative or something to help take the edge off when you arrive on the day of your surgery. And keep in mind, it wasn't too bad... really, one minute the anesthesiologist was telling me to take some nice deep breaths from the mask while he put some medicine in my IV, and the next thing I knew I woke up in recovery as if I'd just taken a nice afternoon nap. :) It hurt some, but my urologist and the recovery nurse were standing by ready to give me some pain meds.

Good luck :)

Jen

I have had the same experience, also. In the beginning, before I was on any meds, that would happen. At first I would think, "Oh, maybe I don't have IC." But then it would come back.

Even now, when I am on a bunch of meds and feel good 95% of the time --- those symptoms will still creep back in there after weeks of feeling good. It happens much less often now, but does still happen from time to time.

I was dxd in August 2001. I went running to a uro because of the horrible bladder pain I was having. Then in December 2001, I started having relief from that constant pain. That also happens to be when I started taking Elavil. Now, I am fine most of the time. Every once in a while, I have what I would describe as light flares (like this past Tues. and Wed.). Then, once again, I start to feel pretty good. :)

Hi Lacey,

I hope that things will go well for you. I have to wait 3 months (while taking low-dose antibiotics) before my Dr. will do the cysto/hydro which is really frustrating. However, I'm glad you're having it done so you can see what is going on in there.

Have you been under general anesthesia before? It doesn't sound like it. I was when I had my appendectomy. It was a little scary when I first started to go under but the next moment, I was in the recovery room. It wasn't so bad and they gave me morphine afterwards.

What time is it tomorrow? If I'm awake, I'll try to think of you at that time.

Emily

I also have symptoms come and go and although it hasn't been lately, I have, in the past, gone weeks without any symptoms. or at least without anything more than minor stuff, not enough to take pyridium or anything.

Let us know how the test went and how you feel!

I went in and had my surgery done--I am in ALOT of pain, they gave me morphine as soon as my surgery was over and I have been constantly throwing up,thank GOD I am doing better to today with that.I cannot urinate though but little trickles at a time and its starting to stress me out cause I feel like I have to go really really bad since they stretched my bladder out--I can only go have decent if i stand up kinda and go--its kinda sick but true.I was diagonsed with interstitital cystitis though:( it wasnt really as depressing as I thought it would be because I has already thought i have had it--so it wasnt a shock i guess i can say.My doctor said I have to come in,in about 2 weeks to start some medication--he said my interstitial cystitis isnt a really"BAD CASE"but its still there.I have so many questions to ask him --and i never got a chance to cause i was soooo doped up on pain meds that I wouldnt have remembered if he talked to me or not.Does anyone know if this can affect having children?I want one more but it seems as though I have been having a difficult time trying to conceive.I am having ALOT of pressure and it hurts to walk, ride in a car,sit down anything that invovles anything bumping up against my bladder.I am glad its done but now i feel HORRIBLE!!!Thank you all for your prayers I thank you for all your support in my time of need.

 Lacey,

Glad your procedure is over, but sorry you had to receive the diagnosis of IC although I'm glad your doctor didn't think it was a "bad case" at least. If the feeling continues that you need to urinate and you can't, you may need to contact your Uro about that. I had the cyst/hydro done for my diagnosis and it hurt the first few times I went and perhaps it was more difficult getting the stream to start due to swelling from the trauma, but I don't recall not being able to urinate a sufficient quantity. You might urinate into a container & measure how much is really coming out. Even though you just think you're doing "trickles"--sometimes the amount can surprise you--
Someone else seeing your post may have more helpful info for you, but my usual advice is to contact your Uro if you feel something is not right as he/she is the "expert" and is familiar with you.

Hugs & blessings to you and keep us updated on how you're doing.
