I have been in a flare. I did some cleaning last night. From this morning on, I have hurt worse. Does exertion make it worse? I can't remember since it has been so long since I had a flare like this.

For me the answer is......YES!!!! I usually slow down on the cleaning until my flare is over.

Physical exertion almost always makes me feel worse. Stress does too.
I hope you get some relief soon.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Just when I thought I had the flare under control, BAM! It hits me hard! It really bothers me that I can't do simple chores without hurting! :cussing: I always have to remind myself and say to myself: keep positive, keep positive, keep positive, attitude is everything! :smile tee

When my bladder is throwing a fit any sort of activity only makes it worse. -And makes it take longer for the flare to pass.
Hopefully it'll be a long time before you have another flare like this again!

Too much activity of any kind is not good for me.

I always have to pace myself on doing any physical activity. If I overdo it, my bladder lets me know. Ouch!

Unfortunately, YES. Most of the time the only thing I can do without creating a flare is to sit here in my desk chair and research/write. And sometimes, all I have to do is go pee and my bladder flares anyway...
I guess you could say that most everything "I physically do" -- even very simple housework -- most always makes me flare, and a lot of the time the thing that "my bladder is supposed to do" does the same...
So, if this happens to you too blondie, then you are definitely NOT alone!

Yup, me too! My trouble is that the house gets pretty bad when I am flaring, so then, when I am better and go at it, it's a good day's job to get caught up. So, by the time I do that, I am back hurting bad again. But, when I try spreading it out. I get to hurting bad again along the way and have to lay back down and rest. Feels like I just cant accomplish alot b/c I have to stop and start all day long!
Another thing is I have almost constant pain, but by resting, I can keep it down to about a 3. But, when I get up and moving around, it spikes back up to 7-8, so I have to take my breakthru meds and lay back down. UGH! I just hate the whole vicsious cycle! Glad I am not the only one! I'd been thinkng it was just me!
Thanks for posting the question! It'll be interesting to see how many others are like this too!

I'd been thinkng it was just me!Hey amaranthe,
That is pretty much were I am as well. Still! Even with the 24/7 pain meds (which truly work so well I could just cry with thankfulness! They keep me from having to live in 7-8+ pain all of the time! :)). But even now, if I do the least bit of housework, such as cook a simple dinner or do a few loads of laundry, my pain will--more than likely--go from a 2-3 to 5-6 in just a matter of minutes. Sometimes, if I sit down for an hour or so, it will calm down on its own without needing a breakthrough med dose, but--sometimes it doesn't and its on to a 7-8 before I can stop it!
I too hate the vicious cycle of pain! And I hate being so freakin' fragile!! I honestly feel like I am walking on very thin ice most of the time, and it's not a matter of "if I flare" -- rather, it is usually only a matter of "how much can I get done before I flare so bad" that I am down for the count for the rest of the day...or days even... :(
So no, you are not alone either! And...even though I wouldn't wish this kind of life on anyone--I am really glad I am not the only one either! I keep wondering whether I will one day just get used to it, or whether my days will always totally revolve around this pain...
"They" simply MUST do something for people like us, and SOON!

I have terrible trouble with physical activity, and have gotten to a point where I try to schedule approximately 20 minutes of housework for each day. If it's a really bad day, I might break that 20 minutes into four five-minute segments if I have to. If I don't get them all done (but hopefully part), there isn't much to carry over.
On REALLY BAD days, I just let it go. I have yet to see my house dissolve because of the presence of dust bunnies (and I have a major problem with those - it looks like tumbleweeds, because I have a long-hair cat, a short-hair cat, and a great-pyrenees/lab mix (big AND fluffy) all living in my house with me!). I used to vacuum my house daily. Now it usually gets it twice a week, and if I'm really bad, I try to get my son to do it, or it just gets ignored. Either one.
In the end, part of coping is learning to pace activity, and forgiving yourself for the days that you're too sick to be active. It is not your fault you have IC, therefore not your fault when it makes you forego activities you would like to do or believe you SHOULD do.
