I have seen alot of people mention PH Testing strips on these forums. Could anyone tell me where they get them? I have many pharmacies around me. Last week I went to seven of them, and none of them had them. I tried a few vitamin stores (Like GNC) and they did not have them. I am out of ideas. Also, some people have mentioned PH numbers like 6.5 or 7.1. Do these strips test so accurately that they calibrate into the tenths? As always, thanks to all of you who do your best to help the rest of us out if you can.

I would love this information as well. I drink a lot of tap water and I want to make sure its not making my pain any worse!

My pharmacist told me the best price for them is where swimming pool supplies are sold. I haven't been to one, yet. I seem to recall a pool department at Sears.

Mrsrea,

I had no idea how important water was! I have been feeling bad for a long time, even though I was very careful with my diet. I kept eliminating more and more food till I was hardly eating anything. Yet, I still felt bad. Then I got the brilliant idea about the water from something I read on this site. I dropped my water and started in on Evian (it killed me because it was so expensive, but at this point I just need to feel good). The change was almost immediate! I haven't felt so good in ages. So, all this time that I was trying so hard, I just kept dumping tons and tons of water into my bladder that was making me hurt. But, I'm thrilled to discover this water problem, and correct it. Now, I am going to get some of those PH testers and test everything.

Thanks for the info! I am a huge water drinker. I actually just stopped drinking bottled water a couple months back. I bought those reusable bottles and I just keep them filled with tap water. I really hope the water isn't hurting me!

Mrsrea...Since you are in Memphis, I doubt that the tap water is a problem for you. I have never had a problem with it and neither has the other ICers I know from here. From all the water reports, we have some of the best water in the nation. I have lived all over the country and I can attest to that. We are very fortunate. :):):)

You can get ph testing supplies at any pet store that carries fish supplies, swimming pool supply place... or even places like target, walmart etc on the aisle where the swimming pool stuff is.

Anyone know about NYC tap water? And what about using a Brita filter?

Don't know about NY water but the brita filter is just activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is good at trapping other carbon-based impurities ("organic" chemicals), as well as things like chlorine and odors and sediment. To really clean up your water you need a good R/O unit.

Edited to add that filters like the Brita etc do not change the PH of your water.

I just used my pH test strips to test my tap water vs. the same water through my Brita pitcher. The pH didn't change at all. But the taste of the water is much better through the Brita.
