I had no clue where to put this so I apologize if it's in the wrong place. Please bear with me I need help.

I have been having a hard time with my uro/gyno's office. I posted about how I really like my doctor. Apparently, he is not quite a doctor and he is not my doctor. He is a "fellow". I don't know what this means. I am at a teaching hospital for treatment. They are actually very good. For my initial appointment I was supposed to see a Dr.R. I ended up seeing the fellow who is Dr.W. Well, Dr.W needed to ask Dr.R. a few questions during my appointment and I never saw Dr.R. I was fine with that. I really thought Dr. W. was just a new doc. He was quite good.

Every time I call the nurse there is confusion about whose patient I am. They seem to scratch their heads. Duh. At one point I had to make an emergency call to the on call doc for a really horrible flare. I spoke to yet another fellow and she was no good. The nurse this morning seemed to think I was that fellow's patient.

And then the nurse says, "The Doctor W. and _____ (the nasty woman fellow I spoke to on the phone) are confused and don't want to give you any new meds." I was only asking for Urised for the love of Pete! Then the other shoe drops and the nurse says, "You need an appointment with Dr. R. and he won't be here until Thursday let me transfer you to his secretary."

Excuse me while I lose it. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT, THAT I WAITED 3 LONG PAINFUL MONTHS FOR, WITH DR. R. AND HE PASSED ME OFF TO SOME "ALMOST" DOCTOR AND NOW YOU PEOPLE ARE TREATING ME LIKE I AM AN IDIOT AND A DIFFICULT PATIENT.

What can I do? :headbang:

Maybe find a new doctor?
Or go to a walk-in clinic and explain what you need?
You said you only wanted some urised. You can go to walmart and buy Uristat. You dont need a script for that. It will help with the pain until you see a doctor.

I would make the appointment, then insist that you see the doctor with whom you have the appointment --- if that's not possible, then what I would do is leave the office and check the physician list on this site and find a different doctor.

Thanks Ladies! Unfortunately, I have already taken Uristat for too long. They seem to be ready to give me the Urised. I will call the nurse tomorrow to get the status. I will take that suggestion Donna. I am hoping they are just having a glitch. However, I have noticed the fellows don't seem to know the usual drugs in the way I know they should. I told the on call mean doctor that I was taking Uristat. I am not joking, and I hope y'all are sitting down, the doc says,"I am not familiar with all the names. Do you know the drug pyridium?" :dizzy:

Anyway, I will insist I see the senior doctor and I will be pinning him down on who does the procedure with anesthesia. However, when the "fellow" I liked did the manual exam he was excellent. He was gentle but firm and clearly was not hesitant in any way. My exam seemed second nature to him. I am wondering if I am experiencing some office politics. The senior doc may have the fellows on a short leash and may be difficult to work for. They seem to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

If I don't like this senior doc there is another doc in the practice that comes highly recommended by my GP and my GP knows me extremely well. I will ask her if I have a problem at my next appointment.

OK I feel better now.:)

LOL...I had a doctor that said the same thing to me! As soon as I heard him say that, I knew I wanted a new doctor and switch the next day. It was obvious that he knew nothing about IC.

Finally received a phone call from a nurse who knew what she was doing. Dr W. is training under DR. R. - Dr. W. really is an MD going through the process of getting his credentials etc. in uro/gynecology. But Dr. R. is my real doctor and he will be doing my surgery. I have never met Dr. R. and I am a little unsure of his bedside manner but I am sure his surgery is fine since this is a well respected practice.

I have a feeling these are the kinds of things that happen in teaching hospitals. Maybe I should tatoo what my surgical procedures are supposed to be on my abdomen. That way there is no confusion when I am unconscious in the OR. Just kidding. They're not that bad.

If it were me, I would want to at least meet with the doctor who is doing the procedure. I would call and ask if I could make a consultation appointment with him.

Good idea with the tattoo! But I would go with a Sharpie pen.

Sharpie it is. I am actually going to meet the elusive Dr.R. during my pre-op a week before surgery. This should be fun.

OK, Sharpie on the forehead for that one.

I was just going to ask about the "fellow". With my ortohpedic surgeons I was very carful to find OS that were fellowship trained. That means that after they completed all requirement for their speciality for orthopedic surgeon they had chosen to train in a center of excellence under experienced orthopedic surgeons..something a little deeper than just hanging a shingle.

I don't know how many specialities have the fellowship programs, probably all of them.

Ugh I understand your frustration b/c this happened to me! I hate when they pass you around to the person your appointment isn't even with, nothing gets solved and then they act like you are the crazy one while you're stuck sick while they get their act in gear.

I am glad you found some resolution for now and hope it goes better from now on.
