Does anyone know how many people are diagnosed with IC in the US?

I have heard that they believe the numbers are larger than the population with diabetes. how true ?? who knows

Dear ABliske -

They used to say that there were around 500,000 cases of IC in the U.S. I believe they have revised that to 1,000,000.

interesting. I had heard 700,000, but I thought that was high. I don't know anybody who really knows what it is. If it's more common than diabeties, why isn't it talked about? just because of the word "bladder"?

The ICA brochure my uro gave me said 1,000,000, but it was copyrighted 2002.

The current estimate is 3-8 million women based on a new study funded by the NIH. This information came out of the last American Urological Association Conference in April. More info can be found here:
