And i've been reading the remission stories and success stories, so i figured i'd share mine.

i was put on the Elmeron, atarax, and elavil...i've probably spelled them all wrong, and i hated taking them. so my doctor referred me to a female urologist at a time when my IC was so bad, that my boyfriend could see my shaking from pain when i came out of the bathroom. i went to that female urologist, told her my symptoms. she upped my dosage on all three of my meds and gave me an antibiotic. it was like the parting of the red sea the next day. the day i first took this cocktail, that night i slept through the night. i haven't had symptoms of IC since then, and that was late Nov. 2003.

in September 2003, i had a bladder biopsy, and my doctor said the lining of my stomach looked like it had been through a meat grinder. in fact, he dubbed my bladder as the worse case of IC he'd ever seen, and started documenting my bladder. in March 2004 when i had my follow-up, he said it looked like a whole new bladder.

i'd been fighting, what i thought were bladder infections since 1993. it wasn't until 2001, when i went to a NP she looked at my urine sample and was concerned that i might go into kidney failure, did i learn that not one of my urine samples previously contained any bacteria. she urged me to go to a Urologist.

i hear that antibiotics don't work for everyone, but i thought i'd share my story.

i was upped to 2 elmeron twice daily, and 2 atarax once daily. and 2 elavil once daily and the antibiotic i took 2 on the first day and one every day after for 10 days i think.

i don't take any of the meds now though, and haven't since early December.

Why did the dr say your "stomach" looked like a meat grinder, if he did a bladder biopsy?
Just curious:confused: I had my bladder biopsy on Tues of this week and my pictures of the bladder looked good. So my ur did not know why I had been in so much pain.
How did your ur determine what the stomach looked like

well, he keeps getting on me about not taking the medications, but other than that, he said that if he hasn't known me, he'd thought i got a bladder transplant.

so i don't know if it's gone. once, a NP put me on macrobid for a week, and i had teh same results, only for the symptoms to come back. right now, symptoms haven't come back at all and it's 5 months later. we'll see.
