Where is your pain? Is it middle or on your sides? The reason I ask, is because I don't really have pain with my IC. But since I have been on the diet, I have noticed more discomfort/mild pain. It comes and goes. I don't have it all the time. But now since I know what I have, I am paying more attention I guess. I have had ovarian cysts too. But I did change my bc pills, and things got better. The pain is sometimes crampy, but then I also get sharp pains too. It can be either in the middle of my abdomen or more towards the sides (which make me believe its my ovaries). Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

I dont know if you want to call it insight, but i get very similar pain. I feel daily like I should be getting my period. That was one of my first big issues that lead down this road of IC.

My pain is sometimes on the sides, sometimes in the middle, and anywhere in between. It doesn't feel skin-deep, it feels like it's in the middle of me, too. I hate it because I don't feel like I can stop it, because I can't reach in and touch it. If the diet is making your symptoms worse, then stop it. I don't follow the diet. While it works for most, we might be the exceptions.

I have MANY differnt kinds of pain in MANY different places. Took some years for me to discern exactly how to describe the different types of pain I have and exactly how to say where that pain was coming from. Many times the pain originates in the bladder but then is referred to different places, like lower back, entire pelvic region, vulvar and/or vaginal areas, butt, crotch, abdomen, inner upper thighs, each side of hip! Other times my symptoms may start in vaginal/pelvic floor/vulvar area and then refer to bladder and then the all the oher places!!!:loco:Just a crazy cycle...often seems like a circle...no exact point of beginning or end, it just IS.
Pain I have learned to describe in many ways, and I still consider it pain whether it is what is normally described as "pain" and often what it takes is a pain med to relieve these various symptoms of pain for me:
dull pain, aching pain, crampy pain, sharp shooting stabbing pain, discomfort, pressure, urgency, burning of any kind in any area, hypersentive skin and vaginal/vulavar/ urethral tissue, hypersensitive to the lightest touch... again in any area at any time (like a mild but chronic electric shock feeling or pins and needles feeling), and probably more....for me ALL of those are feelings of pain, even if it is not what one would normally describe as pain (like when you stub your toe or cut yourself by accident).
There is nothing wrong with my ovaries but especially the first two years I had IC symptoms my symptoms were SEVERE and my ovaries were very specifcally tender, sore, and hypersensitive to touch and I would fly off exam table if even the lightest touch was applied to them by dr. I know my ovaries are ok b/c I had a laparoscopy and pix that showed that my ovaries are fine and dandy.
I don't know if this post is of any help?? But I do know for me that with time and determining exactly where my symptoms were coming from helped me realize that there are many many different ways of describing and experiencing pain that are not what most "normal" people would be able to describe as pain.

My pain is usually in the middle lower abdomen. I also have pain in my urethra when I am flaring.
