Two weeks prior to surgery I cannot take ibuprofen or aspirin. Probably because of bleeding. The problem is that I take ibuprofen (I am one of the rare IC'ers who can take this drug without incident) for endo pain. The endo is just suspected but as soon as I ovulate I really need that ibuprofen. I don't respond well to narcotics. What am I supposed to do for pain? I am also wondering if I flare...will they let me take Uristat or Urelle? Probably not. But I can call and ask.

What an inconvenience. Does anyone have any suggestions? Did anyone else struggle with the "rules" 2 weeks prior to surgery? I didn't have to do any of this before my D & C. I'm kind of freaked out.

Can you tolerate Tylenol? Tylenol I know is safe to take prior to surgery unless you have an underlying reason why its not save for you personally.
Aside from that I cant think of anything else that would be OK to take. You could always call your surgeon and inquire as s/he is the only one who should be giving you suggestions anyway.

Wishing you well....

I have had 20 years of hydrodistensions. The reason for the ban on asp. and ibuprofen is due to the bleeding that happens during the hydro. With any surgery, those medications are blood thinners and increase the risk of bleeding. You should be able to take pyridium for a flare up, I also was able to take percocet before. Good luck, hydro distensions always gave me some relief.

I suggest you check with your doctor's office about substitutions for the aspirin and ibuprofen.

I'm going to call my doc's next week. Mercifully, I am not due for my peiod during those 2 weeks so I shouldn't be in complete agony before the procedure. Sadly, Tylenol does nothing. I wish it did!

Thanks everyone:)
