What anti spasmodic has not caused urinary retention, or the least amount? I
have tried ditropan, detrol, which have led to retention, which then leads to pelvic floor spasms after urinating.

All those you mentioned caused retention for me.. One of my fellow ICers and friend says she is having good luck with Vesicare and having no retention issues which she did with the others..

Other meds to speak to your dr about that fall in the bladder antispasmodic/analgesic category but are much different than those such as Ditropan, Dextrol, Vesicare, Enablex, etc. are:
Pyridium
Pyridium Plus
OTC uristat or AZO standard (same as Rx Pyridium)
Urelle
Utira-C
UTA (urinary tract antiseptic)
Prosed DS
Hyoscyamine
Bentyl
Many of us have one of the above meds in our treatment plans and many consider these types of meds a mainstay of their treatment, as they treat a variety of symptoms, but are non-narcotic so easily prescribed and work very well with minimum to no side effects! Each one of us may have our particular favorite for one reason or another, but they all work in very similar ways for a variety of symptoms, including very well for spasms!!! Hope this is of some help and something you are able to discuss with your dr!

Kim,
The meds you tried (Ditropan and Detrol LA) are anticholergenics, which means they are drying type of meds. Many of us havent been able to take them because they caused us retention.
However, the meds that Briza mentioned are a different class of meds. I am able to take these with no problem. I take Utria-C. It has an analgesic, antispasmodic and an antiseptic.
It turns your urine blue, and helps with urethra spasms and bladder spasms b/c it contains an antispasmodic, (Hycosamine). It also helps with frequency and urgency. Then, for people who get actual UTIs, it helps since it contains a mild antiseptic which helps to keep bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall. (Some ICers get UTIs after sex, so this helps alot in those cases too.) Lastly, it also has an analgesic that helps with the pain.
I'd definately ask your Dr. to let you try one of the meds Briza listed. I think Urelle and Utira-C are very similar (maybe even the same ???) Pyridium is great too, however some Drs. dont recommend taking Pyridium for more than a few months.
Hope you feel better soon!
Sincerely,
Amaranthe

I had horrible retention from Detrol LA --
I have been taking Vesicare 5mg for about 9 months now and have had success with it -- my urogyno says Vesicare is about the mildest med of it's kind on the market and the one he's found causes the least amount of retention in his patients.

Does the medicine that turns the pee blue, I believe here it is called urelle, does this contain asprin? I was reading the pamphlet that comes with it and it mentions it had sayicilates(sp) in it. I believe this is asprin am I right?? I had taken something called cystex awhile back for when I was in alot of pain and It helped alot with the pain. after taking it a couple days I ended up having severe stomach pain and vomiting. I believe it was from the asprin in it. Does urelle also have asprin in it?

I think Urelle and Utira C are the same. (Not 100% sure about that, but pretty sure.) But, Utira c has Phenyl Salicylate, wich is the antibacterial/antiseptic agent that helps to keep bateria from sticking to the bladder wall. So, no, it is not asprin. Asprin is acetysaicylic acid.
Hope this helps!
