On 10mg of Elavil since last Saturday. Already having trouble peeing, like I barely can and it won't come out most of the time. Am grateful that I won't need a catheter to keep in for awhile, yet anyway. I see the doc tomorrow for my instill, so will talk to him then. Talked to someone else in the office on the phone today and was told to drop it. Wasn't helping yet anyhow. Oh well. Another thing of what doesn't work.

I'm sorry to hear it isn't working for you! :(

I was on it about two weeks ago and I had to come of because it was doing similar things to me. My frequency shot up, and urgency too. And when I tried to go, barely anything at all would come out! It was very frustrating! I am on Tofranil since about five days ago, instead. So far, so good!

Elavil can cause bladder retention!! Please tell your Dr about this..

Ended up in retention for a few days, yuck. Off the med and out of my system did the trick. Missed work. Lost out money. Yeah, fun. I actually get in more trouble for going into work not feeling well instead of calling in sick, so that wasn't a problem.

Had to go to the doctor's office to get cathed. He wasn't in, but his partner was. He took time out of what he had to do (surgery I think or maybe that was later) to help me out. He was great. He's done some of my instills when my doc was on vacation. I like him. He's the type that you want to have around when you feel lousy.

Went back again that afternoon to the regular doc and he showed me how to do it after doing it for me. It was pretty funny and I was cracking jokes by then, so we were laughing about stuff and it was great. Exactly what I needed. He drew me how to do it too and was just hilarious to see how he did it. Guess the only way that getting obscene pictures drawn from a guy are acceptable. :)

Was so scared to cath my own self, but knew I had to before going to bed and I did it. Wasn't as bad as I thought. Dreaded doing it the next morning though, but I was able to go on my own. So happy! A close friend of mine called to tell me that day that she got engaged. Told her that I could pee on my own again. :) Fun times...

Are you taking any bladder spasm meds such as Detrol LA or Vesicare? I was taking Vesicare from my urologist. The urogyno I saw had me increase the Tofranil from 10 mg to 25 mg. Then, I felt like I needed to pee but couldn't. The uro told me to take one or the other but not both since they act sort of the same.
