I'm scheduled to have the cysto/hydro and biopsy next month and I'm very scared of the pain while peeing afterwards. I just had urodynamics and it killed to pee after and I was on Urelle and had the numbing gel to inject in the urethra but it still killed. My bladder bled all night as well. I am better today. The hydodistention must be much more invasive and I'm really scared of the pain on urination. It was so hard to pee after urodynamics, I kept clenching in response to the pain and could bearly pee. I have read that some of you wore a catheter bag for a day or a few days after, did that help? Did you have alot of pain with the catheter in and did it hurt to pee when it was removed?

The first few times I urinate after a hydrodistention are not fun, but after that the pain pretty much goes away. I like having a catheter overnight, but some ICers aren't comfortable with that. I hope you'll be among those of us who are helped by hydrodistention.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Thanks Donna I hope it helps me like it has helped you. I'm scared but I need an answer to whatever is wrong with me. I don't want IC but I really need to know what is wrong, after 5 years of this I do feel like I'm crazy!

I had cysto under anesthesia with other tests performed at the same time. I have to say, it was extremely painful. I had to have pain medication prescribed by my surgeon; I bled for quite a few days. I dreaded having to pee, not wanting to intimidate you, but the symptom's you are expressing from your Urodynamics, is the same way I felt for the first couple of days. The blood went away but the pain was still there and each day it got better and better, but it was a good 3 days before the excruciating pain subsided, then it turned to mild discomfort and by mid week (I had mine on a Friday) I was feeling a little better.

I had my procedure last month. It was really not a big deal. It hurt to urinate for a while but they gave me some meds to help. Do not really think they helped a great deal. It goes away within a week. I can not say that I am any better or worse after the procedure. Just know that I do not have cancer. At the time of my procedure I did not have a flare up so there was not much irritation but there were mast cells. My uro would not treat me until I had the procedure. He is a specialist in the area of IC and is on the IC Association Board. My follow up is tomorrow. Excited to see what is next. Would like to have something for the pain. Part is my fault because I DO NOT follow an IC diet. I love my Starbucks.:tsk:

Girl, the coffee is the first thing that has to go!!!! Have you tried low-acid coffee? It gives me urgency issues personally, but it's a lot better than normal stuff.

Can you take a Lorcet or something for a few days afterwards for the pain? It doesn't really remove the pain, it just makes you not care, if that makes sense. No point making those pain pathways get entrenched if you don't have to. Good luck, dear one... laura

I haven't had the procedure myself, but I would discuss your concerns with your doctor. Pain meds have never been my answer, but whatever works for you use it! I know some women have been really helped by hydrodistention. I pray you are one of them! *hugs* good luck we are here for you!

Thank you everyone for the responses and suggestions. Life with four, I agree, please stop the coffee! Cutting out coffee was the best thing I ever did, I went from peeing up to 40 times a day down to 20. I know it's hard, I really miss it sometimes, but not what it did to me. Thanks again!
