Ok I have laproscopic surgery 2 times ... each time after surgery I can't pee for like over an hour.. then I start and I have to go like literally every 2 - 5 mins and it isn't a lot. What causes this? Thanks

If you're catheterized for the surgery, that could be a factor.

yes they do catheterize me. Can I ask them not to do it?

You can ask, but they do need to keep your bladder empty. You might ask them to use a pediatric catheter so it will be less irritating.

Donna is right, most general aneshesia surgeries involve a catheter, it seems, and even more important I imagine when it involves pelvic bladder area surgery.... But the suggestion she gave you is EXCELLENT> I also many times require/demand a pediatric cathether or at least a smaller French size than is usually used during surgeries...as the ones they use during surgeries do often seem to be much larger than the ones than most people would care to tolerate while awake and that can definitely cause some post op urinary tract issues such as inflammation, burnnig, irritation, difficulty peeing, frequency and urgency (but the larger the cath diameter obviously the faster they can drain the bladder and keep it drained during surgery). In addition to Donna's suggestion of a smaller size cath, I personally highly recommend requesting/demanding a non-latex cath...I am not allergic but I am HIGHLY sensitive to latex down there.

Anyway, from some of my post op reports I have read that they have used 16 or 18 Fr caths during surgery....OWWWWIE....I am very sensitive down there but I don't always require a pedriatic size cath....generally if it is non-latex and 12 Fr or smaller then I am not affected so badly, if at all, and like I said I am highly sensitive down there esp when they put/force too big tubes into too small holes!! lol

So from my exeperience and having VV and Vulvodynia that makes me so much more sensitive to things down there, generally 12 FR or smaller non-latex does not cause me much or any issue....tho to tell the truth I am most happy with 8 French or the even smaller diameter pediatric caths/feeding tubes and definitely non-latex can be much less irritating, even if you don't have latex sensitivies or allergies.
Hope this helps:)
