No wonder I was so exausted and stressed that I had a nervous breakdown!

My cortisol and DHEA levels are really low, the next level would be failure...

This means a lot of hormonal imbalance. I need to look more into it, and whether my IC is influenced by all this.

Anybody else had this test and has or has had adrenal fatigue?

Thanks
April

I haven't had this test. Which kind of doctor does them?

Hi Donna,

In my case my nutritionist suggested and ordered the test to me. It is pretty simple, just a saliva collection 4 times the same day.

The level of cortisol and DHEQ hormones are measured. Those are really important hormones that influence estrogen, progesterone, thyroid, energy levels, immune system, allergies... adrenal stress can also cause diabetes and various autoimmune deseases..

I was particularly impressed by the similarity of my history with Celeste's (in the IC patients stories in this website).

Like her I had abuse, stress, IC, a breakdown recently.. this is why I wonder if all that is related. In fact, I might ask you if you have her contact, so that I can have a chat with her.

Thanks

I began having bladder pain at 35 and it would get worse each day. I went to see a urologist several times and was told it was all in my head.

This January (2005) at 41 I had a 'break down'. My adrenals were totally taxed and shortly after that I was diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

As soon as I began taking an adrenal support plus Relora (a stress management supplement), my IC pain went away instantly that very same day I begin treatment.

Then I began therapy to deal with my long-standing PTSD due to a kidnapping/sexual assault I had at the age of eight which was left untreated. The stress from the PTSD taxed my adrenals and my low adrenals revealed terrible IC.

Now my body is free of pain, and so is my mind and soul. Had I not had my 'break down', I might be in pain and fear still.

I almost forgot>

Cortisol, which I lack of, is a big ANTINFLAMMATORY agent of the body.

My gyno did some blood work and my DHEA level was at the bottom of the barrel. I wonder if this is caused my IC. I also wonder who I could contact to do the saliva test. I have not been abused, but when all of this came about I was going through some stressful things. I was pregnant with my first child, my husband lost his job, my grandmother passed away and my dad had a pacemaker implanted. I may have to look further into this.

adrenal fatigue can also be tested through urine, and also through your bloodwork having your cortisol levels checked and also your ACTH.

I right now have this...and am trying the natural route.

My cortisol levels were really high, so I am on the opposite end of you...but again suffer similar symptoms. Usually (adrenal fatigue) is caused by a trauma in your life whether it is a famil member dying, or an internal stressor. I am thinking mine got set of due to the onset of an allergic reaction..which in turn gave me IC symptoms.

Your adrenals sit above the kidneys and can cause havoc to the entire body, the symptoms are at least a page long.
