View Full Version : Could this be a food flair?

Hi everyone,

I'm still trying to figure out about foods and how they affect me- hopefully others can share their experiences with foods and flairs.

I've been on a fairly strict IC diet for the last several months. But when I have cheated (only 2-3 times) I did not notice any increase in symptoms (then or later). However, yesterday I tried a new soup and did not realize it had tofu in it. About 1.5 hours after eating, I began to have pain, which I don't often have. It was like stabbing/knife-like pains that were very low (I think they were in my bladder- but it was hard to tell for sure) and it hurt to move or do anything. This lasted the rest of the night and I was pretty worn out by the end. It gradually faded away and this morning I feel better.

Does this sound food-related? I don't ever eat tofu (this was a rare occurrence) and I don't ever plan to again. I can totally understand now why people say they don't eat/drink something because it hurts- if this is how it feels.

I'm also wondering, does that mean that the other foods I've "cheated" with and didn't cause pain, don't bother me? :loco:

Any insights?

This does sound like a food flare.. What I have learned with foods is I can eat some IFFY foods IF I am having a really good IC day.. BUT If my bladder is just a little irritated I better not even attempt it!! Also when in doubt with a iffy food you could try Prelief..

A food flare sounds like a possibility here. Some ICers can't tolerate tofu at all.

I definitely know some food/drinks make me flare. The cause and effect have happened too often to be coincidence.

I'm like Rhonda, can indulge in certain things if my bladder is in a really good place to begin with. I've also learned that in some cases I can have a certain amount and be fine. Like one serving of X,...but if I have three servings of it there'll be consequences. It takes a while to figure out what you can and can't do, and unfortunately the learning experience can be painful!

I'm glad you're feeling better!
