It might be helpful to leave with a prescription for pain pills. Said a little prayer for you!

Hi:hi:
I see you are new to the board...so please don't take my comments as being negative or not wanting to be of help!!! Your hydro is tomorrow morning and it is late for me now so I will have to keep this brief...but please know that your concerns are valid and true and I will address them as much and honestly as I can before I fall asleep!

YES, absolutely, you will most likely need at least a few days off from school and work...since you are having hydro tomorrow (FridAY) hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who recovers quickly, and some DO, but many many others take a week or more to be functionable....the pain CAN be that bad, I hope not for you but it is not uncommon.

If complications occur....such as partial or complete urinary retention ( not all that uncommon) please call dr or go to ER ASAP as then that would most likely be not only be quite painful and require you to go on cath and leg bag, but also create situation that requires even MORE recovery time and time off from work/school. Not trying to scare you just awaring of you of one of the most common complications that may arise.

After hydro I would expect/demand prescriptions for Rx pain meds, Pyridium or other similar med, and a preventative antibiotic (it is not uncommon to develop UTI after this procedure....so preventative antibiotic for a week or so I highly recommend). Whoever is accompanying you to surgery make aware of all of this in case you are not in condition to ask!!

You may or may not see your dr before or after surgery...hard to believe but yes that is often the case if they are really booked or running behind or running late.
I HIGHLY recommend that you tell every nurse, anesthesiologist, dr that you see tomorrow pre-surgery that you want a copy of your bladder photos for yourself...remind remind remind....otherwise they usually just take one copy for your file....but having your own copy for your own file is possible if you insist on having them, and may be very helpful for you in future if you change drs or see any new drs...you can show them your own photos yourself. Helped me much in getting pain management and other treatment when seeing new drs.

Catheters suck but they don't suck as much as the bonfire feeling when trying to pee after hydro....you will most likely be required to pee a certain amount measured in a cup before you are released....if you CAN"T even tho you are probably wanting to get home asap, please stay in recovery room and ask to be re-cathed with 12 or smaller French cath up to 23 hours... usually that will still cost you/insurance just the outpatient surgery rather than overnight if you were to stay 24 hrs+
BUT if you feel you are in such pain, can't pee, can't poop, stay in hospital as long as necessary!!!! Speaking from experience!!!!
Praying that all goes well tomorrow....the likelihood of extreme complications are rare but bad pain and extended recovery time is NOT uncommon. Keep us posted!!

Good luck with your hydro today. Let us know how you are doing.
I am one of the lucky ones that are helped with the hydros, I work fulltime and usually schedule these for either a Thursday or Friday this way I have the weekend to recover. I am usually ok to go back to work on Monday- if need be have my "friend' with me--heating pad.

I hope everything went well and you are recovering. Please rest, rest, rest. If you need more than the weekend to recover, don't feel shy about taking the time. It is your body and you need to let it heal at it's own pace...not anyone else's.

Sending you some soft (((hugs)))...:)

I just had one yesterday and although I had a lot of burning and pain when I had to urinate yesterday, I'm a lot better today. I'm still trying to rest -if I stand to long I start to feel pressure in my pelvic area. My doctor gave me a prescription for Urelle. Seems to be working. I hope this works for me. I was just diagnosed with IC. Hope you recover soon.

I can't sleep, I've been having a flare, from stress I'm guessing, for about a week, running fever of 100.4 to 101.4 but no kidney infection or anything I went to my urologist today ( he never said anything about what caused my fever) and he scheduled my second hydro for in the morning. I don't know why I'm so scared this time...it's my second one. The day after the first one I rode in the car for two hours and went shopping and thought the pain I felt was normal...they forgot to tell me I needed to rest for a day or two...:bonk: I do remember the first couple of times after the hyro when I would go to pee I had to wait for it and kind of push for it to come out...is that normal?

I hope your procedure went as well as mine. it was so much easier than the last one and im feeling better all ready possibly because of how high my pain meds have me...but my doctor said he expects me again in 2 months :( but thats ok because hopefully the time frames will get longer and longer...my first was on feb 10 and then one today...almost two months...hope your recovery goes well :)

How was it? When I had mine last summer, I was groggy and slept the whole day. I went to bible study that night, but slept here and there on the coach in the next room and heard bits and pieces. Got tired of being home myself and was nice to still be there, as well as them letting me crash. I was kind of out of it the whole week, which was most likely the anesthesia. Pain wasn't bad from it and of course I got my period right after (I was expecting it though and was glad it didn't come before because they don't let you wear a pad or tampon before the procedure and you're laying in the bed for awhile before it starts). I was supposed to work full-days towards the end of the week (surgery that Monday), but ended up doing less because it was too much for me. Took 3 weeks or so each time of recovery from my breast surgeries the year before and hurt to lift heavier than a banana, so I was happy to not have to deal with that again! Praying for you.
