Hi everyone! I have had IC for about 7 years diagnosed for about 5 and for the most part now do very well as long as I take my medication (Atarax, Elavil, and Ditropan XL). I fortunately don't have many diet triggers, yet do have flare ups from time to time.

This week I saw my uro for my yearly check up - yes I said yearly - for the most part I do so well that I only have to see him yearly - more often if needed. I was doing so well on Monday, I didn't even think to ask him for meds that I use when I have a flare. I prefer to use Prosed DS when I'm flaring. I'm having a mild flare up this week (ironically started shortly after I left the uro's office), yet it's uncomfortable enough I thought I needed to see if they would call something in for me.

Well, my uro's office called in the Prosed DS and when I went to pick it up, I was told that the manufacturer no longer carries it/makes it. Has anyone else been told this? If anyone has been able to get it recently, please let me know. I also have used Pyridium Plus in the past, yet was told that's not available either. Regular pyridium usually doesn't help me much. What other options for this type of med would I have? Anyone know of something else I could ask for? Fortunately, my doctor has multiple offices and at one of the offices they have some Prosed samples to give me -which I can pick up tomorrow, yet want to be prepared for next time. Any suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!
Jennifer

Humm I also take Prosed Ds but have not had to have mine refilled.. I hope this is not the case..But I have found that different places goes through different pharmaceutical companies. So you might try a different drug store. Like today I had to get my son a script, well wal mart said we do not have it available. I was like but the Dr just wrote it.. They said well we do not carry it and will not get it.. SO we called Walgreens and they had it.. It is because they have a different pharmaceutical company and manufacture.

My uro told me that prosed ds can be hard to find - I've never had a problem getting it from Target, though.

If you can't get the prosed, maybe you can try urelle or utira-c. They are extremely similar in ingredients and are basically sister meds to prosed. They turn your urine blue and are antispasmodics. I use utira-c without any problems and it was much cheaper than the prosed. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the tips on the other closely related medications. I don't use Prosed DS very often - maybe once or twice a year when I'm in a flare that is making me too uncomfortable.

I was able to get the Prosed DS from CVS, yet it is unclear if it's because they still had some on the shelf or if they can still get it. I work for a major health care system and normally get my meds filled at the work pharmacy because I get a discount. They were the ones who originally told me Prosed DS was no longer available. Yet, after I found it at CVS I went back to them. They did say the manufacture took deleted it out of the system and are no longer making it. Yet, later in the day the pharmacy told me that they were able to locate the Prosed DS and have ordered it so the next time I need it, it will be available on their shelf. They told me that the manufacturer had changed the med slightly and now are redistributing (or something like that - I may be mixing up the words a little bit).

So it looks like at least for now, you can still get Prosed DS. I'll let everyone know if I find out anything else. Thanks again for all of your help and the suggestions on other meds to try.

Warm thanks,
Jennifer

does Utira-c stain really bad?
I was looking for a new medicine like prosed that is not too expensive and doesnt stain everything. i mean i know it will because it is a dye but does it stain the bowl really badly or is just about the same as prosed?

They all stain as bad as any other one, as far as I can tell. I've taken Urimar-T, Urised, Urelle, and Utia-C. Same amount of staining.

The Urimar-T worked great for me. When it was no longer available, I switched to the Urelle and it works just as well for me as the Urimar-T did. The other 2 I've tried are Urised and Utira-C, and for whatever the reason, they just didn't work that great for me.

There are lots of members here who really like the Utira-C. I guess it depends on our chemical make-up and what exactly is going on with our bladders. IC is different for everyone.

I started using utira-c because it cost less under my insurance than prosed or urelle. My doctor gave me a two week free sample of both prosed and urelle to see if I noticed any difference. When both worked fine, I tried the utira-c and it worked just as well for me. They all pretty much equally stain. It depends on how much you use. When I first started, I was taking the full dose at four per day. That caused alot of staining in the toilet. Throughout time I have been able to cut back to just one per day so now my pee is barely tinged. As far as the toilet, instead of fighting it, I just buy the blue drop in tablets that clean the bowl and keep the water blue all the time! I never had issues with stained underwear, but you could wear really thin non-scented panty liners. I know Kotex makes some that are so thin, you forget you are wearing them - trust me, I found enough of them in the washing machine! I guess that's my twisted humor for IC!! Have a good day.
