Hey All,

For years before the pain of severe IC hit, I had frequency where I would go every 20-30 minutes all day long during my waking hours. I had to make sure I went before leaving the house or leaving work to come home. Plus, I was always seeking out a bathroom in public places. Then at night, the nocturnia would wake me up every 2 hours or so. Most everyone can relate to this, I know.

Now, however, I seem to have "flip-flopped"!! During my waking hours I can usually hold it for 2 or so hours before I have to go (unless I am really flaring bad) but, now my nocturnia is horrible! I wake up and have to go every 45-minutes to an hour. Most of the time like "clock-work"!!

Has anyone else experienced such a strange switch-a-roo?

I did. I can't figure it out either. Maybe we're more conscious of it and make more of an effort to hold it during the day now? Also, I'm distracted during the day. At night all I can do is lay there wondering how long it will be before I have to pee again. One night I had a nightmare that I was swimming and I kept swimming up to these locked doors and banging on them. Apparently they were LOCKED BATHROOMS! My bladder was going completely berserk and I almost wet the bed! I had to run to the bathroom. I hear you about the nocturia. Sadly, I prefer the pain. :bonk:

This has often happened to me. In fact, times when I felt really good and could go a long time without going are sometimes followed by more irritating nights - like it is payback time. We should not have payback time for feeling good. This miserable disease! I think coffee can do this like something just temporarily relaxes the bladder but then the irritants have time to get in there. Sometimes curling the legs up helps me fall asleep sometimes. If I catch it early in the night I take a half a valium. PV

When I get the every 15 minutes during the nighttime I take a hot shower as hot as I can stand it and stand under water and let it relax everything I would say about 15 minutes then I can go back to bed for couple hours and may need to repeat. I know it sucks but it really does help stop it and I would prefer to get 2 to 3 hours of sleep then keep running to the bathroom every 15 minutes.

You just never know how IC wants to mess with our bodies.
It can change so fast!!
45 minutes is a dream I have to be able to only get up that often.
I am sorry it must be so hard if that is new for you.
I hope things improve for you!
Take care
