Ugh! Okay so last week I went to my urologist and she was going to do a cystoscopy right there in the office. She started to do it and my urethra hurt like hell. Then to my horror she says, " You have a REALLY tiny urethra. I can't force it anymore...You'll have to come back and get it done in the operating room under anethesia."

So yeah, I went through ALL that pain for nothing. And I've been flaring up ever since. For 2 to 3 days afterwards it hurt to pee. Now the pelvic area above my bladder REALLY hurts (enough that i have to bring the heating pad out everyday.) I also have trouble peeing completely. Like it feels like I REALLY need to go and then I go and only a little trickles out but once I stand up from the toilet, my bladder feels full again.

Gah, this is SO annoying! I've got a job interview tomorrow that's like 45 minutes away and I can't even get excited for it. I fear that I'll be uncomfortable the whole time and it will show.

Anyone have any tips to get rid of this horrible flare? Seriously, my IC has NEVER been this bad before.

The flare could possibly be caused by the irritation from the cath. It could also be a bladder infection and not a flare since infection is always possible when cathed.

You could try an OTC Pyridium like Azo to see if that helps you enough to get through the interview. It works as an analgesic numbing the bladder. Just be sure to get a urine sample before taking it if you are going to have your urine checked for infection. The Pyridium will make your urine turn a neon orange color that can stain your underwear. I use a panti liner when I take it.

I also suggest you up your intake of water. You don't have to drown, just drink enough so your urine will be diluted and flush out of your body.

Yeah, I've been trying to up my water intake but it really doesn't seem to be helping. God, this sucks. I am going to my regular doctor on Friday though so I'm going to have her do a urine sample to see if anything's up.

Do you have any pain killers you can take, like Lortabs? Sometimes it helps to break the pain cycle in the beginning of it. You poor thing, I know that feels awful.

Ask doctor if the tiny urethra could be from a spasm. If not a UTI then maybe a spasm could cause the pain and maybe the doc has some meds for that. Good luck with interview. PV
