Hi all,
I have noticed the last several times I've had my period that I have a flair 2-3days after starting the period. What I have noticed is that I start having frequency problems and then my urine becomes cloudy with little specks in it. Once this happens, my bladder feels sort of raw and sore for several days. Then it goes back to its relatively usual state.
Does anyone else experience this? Are there thoughts about what causes it? I'm wondering if there is a hormonal connection (like a change in hormone levels that bring on the flair). Are the specks pieces of my bladder lining or white blood cells?
Thanks,
Kelley

Thats a really good question. I have the same thing only right before my period. My urine gets clear during an episode but has little flakes of depris in it. I used to think it was just toilet paper flakes, but now Im starting to wonder...

Since August 2008, about 6 months of continous instills, I have been feeling better except for during my period. About 1-2 days later, I am still getting the burning bladder and more frequent urination too. I haven't noticed any white flakes though.

Mine is way worse during my period. My uro/gyno and nutritionist both said that hormones make your bladder more sensitive. Fun, huh? Can't just have a period - have to have a flare on top of that.

I've always had flares around that time. Before I was married, my doc put me on the depo shot and shut down my periods. I had to have the shot every 2 months instead of 3 to keep my hormone levels normal, otherwise I would flare when it came close to time for my shot. This helped me stay flare free for 3 years!!!!!! I also have a friend who had the meriana (sp?) inserted after her last child to stop her menstraul cycle, this has helped to stop her symptoms from IBS.
My understanding is the hormone change triggers the flares. Now that we are trying to get pregnant I flare 10 days before and all through my period. Thankfully (I think) I also have polycystic ovary syndrome and only have a period every 3 or so months. It doesn't really help the pregnancy area though!

My bladder goes crazy the moment I ovulate until I get my period. During and after my period I don't have any problems until I ovulate again. It makes sense that hormones make IC/bladder issues worse. I am also starting to get PMDD again but I can't take the pill. I really want to take a birth control pill and never ovulate again but my BP makes it impossible.
Just wanted you to know I empathize.

Darn, everytime I say that I am feeling better, something happens. I haven't had a flare since October 2008 and I just jinks myself because today I have a slight irritated feeling. I need to get it out of my mind or will put some lidocaine 5% ointment on soon.
When one is given the Depo.. shot to stop periods, does it cause water retention or weight gain?

Speaking of periods, does anyone else experience feet swelling during the periods? It feels like my feet get bigger. Swelling of feet I thought only happens during pregnancy.

I get bad systems 10 days into my cycle until my peroid comes. Does anyone know if the pill helps or do you need to stop your peroid totally for any help?

I am actually on my period now and I am in flare. It always is the worst during my period. The pressure from the cramps has a big effect on your bladder and I think the blood flow does too. It sucks and I feel your pain sister : ( Heat pads and marshmellow root tea are always my go to during this time.
