I was just wondering about this because I don't really have any pain with my IC. I have been feeling weird, painlike discomfort from time to time though. So, I figured I would ask. I guess I've always felt this, but it passes quickly.

When your pain started, did it come on suddenly? Or did it start out gradually?

Mine came on suddenly, out of the blue. And it was definitely pain, like a really bad uti.

My symptoms started suddenly with minor urgency and frequency which progressively got worse to more UTI-like symptoms, big IC belly, and constant pressure feeling, during which time really bad Vulvodynia symptoms set in and then at about month 6 I think is when I started having pelvic/bladder pain and burning. Things have stabilized for me and I am currently having more days without any symptoms at all than I do days with symptoms. I do have to watch my diet and drink lots of water.

My urgency has slowly increased since I had my 10yr old son. He was a really big baby....11 lbs 3 oz. I'm only 5' 2" and 3/4". I, of course, had a c-section. But he was "stuck". They had to push and pull to get him out....LOL!! I carried him really low too. After I had him, I did have bladder spasms, but the doctor did not seem concerned. They did go away.

This past year though has been rough. I was going all the time at night. Usually ok during the day, with little bouts of flares. I guess I'm just concerned that I am now starting to have some Pain/discomfort in my abdominal area....which does feel like a UTI. That was my first reaction, that it was a UTI. But this didn't get worse, it just stopped. Some days I don't feel anything though.

My first 18 months or so I had pretty extreme symptoms on a daily basis. After dx, treatment, diet, things calmed down to where I did not always have symptoms everyday. And then have calmed down more to where I don't experience ALL symptoms at the same time. With time and trial and error I have learned which treatment or med to help with each symptom...when before I pretty much had to take and do everything at hand to relieve whichever symptom(s).
Wowsa that was one big healthy baby boy:smile tee I think I read a previous post of yours about that!!
I do have a friend who had C-section and had IC-like/bladder issues arise soon after that....she went thru dx process with cysto, etc., but her symptoms went away and have not ever returned since 16 yrs ago...well, she still has some frequency but not much more than most women even without IC need to pee. She was never dxd w/ IC, but again, it was 16 yrs ago and maybe not so much awareness of it back then.

When your pain started, did it come on suddenly? Or did it start out gradually?I had no idea anything was wrong before 6/14/08...

It was a Saturday night and I was sitting in my comfy chair, reading a book and enjoying a glass of iced tea when I was suddenly hit with lower pelvic, right out of the blue. I assumed I had a terrible yeast infection, which of course was not the case. And the pain has never been like UTI pain.

It took three months to get a diagnosis of IC (via a cysto/hydro), and over those three months the pain never let up and slowly kept getting worse and worse. Since my diagnosis on 9/11, it has continued to get progressively worse over time. So much so, that what I used to think was a Level 10 Pain, is now a Level 8 or so...

Level 5 feels like ground-up glass is churning around in my bladder all the time--which is what I experience every day, and now a level 10 feels like ... I don't know how to describe it ... like someone is trying to cut my bladder up into little pieces with a razor blade dipped in alcohol?? No, even that doesn't adequately describe it...

It makes me cringe in fear just recalling the memory...

One morning, I woke up feeling fine. That afternoon, the frequency began. By that night, I was in pain.

Same for me except I always had frequency and had V a few years before IC..
